60 reviews for De Bierkoning
| Beerlando (43), Orlando, Florida | | September 3, 2009 Absolutely, hands down, the number one beer destination that I found on my trip to Amsterdam. De Bierkoning is a very cool little multi-level shop with an excellent beer and glassware selection. The staff was super friendly and even looked up some beers on RateBeer for me. Lambics are located on the lower floor (best selection I found on my entire trip), glassware on the ground floor, and the rest of the brews on the upper level. They had anything and everything De Molen it seemed, including an exclusive strong saison brewed just for them. For the most part, if it is brewed in the Netherlands and bottled, they have it. Their selection of Belgians also eclipsed that of any store I found in Belgium. Pricing was extremely reasonable. Fantastic beer store. | | dec23 (12), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 15, 2009 The Cracked Kettle might be nicer looking with it’s rustic interiour and the beautiful sign outside, but De Bierkoning trumps it both in selection and prices. The staff are all very knowledgeable when it comes to the almost 1000 beers they have in stock, and if you manage to get past their veneer of being horribly desensitized by truckloads of tourists asking for Heineken then they will prove to be very friendly and helpful. The selection is overwhelming. You will probably find everything brewed somewhere in Belgium or the Netherlands there. Add a wide range of British, U.S., Scandinavian and German beers, supplemented by a quite a few staple products from other places and you have one hell of a beer shop. The only word that comes to my mind is authoritative. If you can, pick a rainy weekday early afternoon to go there. This keeps the probability low that the staff are kept busy by tourists, and can share their extensive knowledge and taste with you. Also a good thing to know: There are two beers available there which you cannot get anywhere else because they are made exclusively for this shop. Those are the Vlo by Brouwerij ’t Ij and the Ton sur Ton by Brouwerij De Molen. | bogus (4), Zeist, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | July 24, 2009 What a wonderfull shop! Stumbled upon it, and I was glad I did! Great assortiment, nice atmosphere! | | Nordcore (11), North of, Norway | | July 16, 2009 Nice beerstore with a lot of different beers, I used the The Cracked Kettle when they had this nice homepage where you can sit at home and plan what to buy. | | zdk (24), New York | | July 12, 2009 Great selection of Dutch beers and microbrews. Good set of Belgians that I [mostly] recognized. Also some American crafts. Best bottle shop in Amsterdam (very glad I accidentally stumbled on it). Staff was friendly and very helpful. | | Fin (97), Merton, England | | June 22, 2009 Only got to this Beer Shop in Amsterdam, unfortunately I never made the Cracked Kettle, though I would struggle to see how this could possible be beaten on the staggering choice, rare stuff and reasonable prices. I concentrated on mostly Dutch beers from De Molen but I also got a few from Mikkeller but I was limited on what I could carry as I was situated on a campsite out of town. Very friendly staff, who suggested De Wildeman and ’T Arendsnest bars as ’got to go to’ places. Visited here twice but if I lived in Amsterdam I would never be out of this place. One of the best speciality beers shops I’ve ever visited. | | NoiZe (49), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands | | January 15, 2009 Great shop. Nice assortment of truly good beers. Good service. Not too expensive. | | forst (15), , Italy | | January 13, 2009 Small and nice beer shop just in the city centre. Glassware, nice selections of beers, and also some limited-amount aged beer from time to time. | martinboer (4), Amsterdam, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | January 7, 2009 Best beer shop I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to quite a few now...
August 21, 2006 [ Updated August 12, 2007 ]
I’ve been going here for more than a year now and after having done some beer tourism I can say that this is one of the great beer shops. The selection of Dutch and Belgian beers is unrivaled. They have Westvleteren but also tons of microbrewers, Scandi, German, English, UK and tons and tons of others. The selection is very fluid so I’m always bowled over by what they have next. This place is fantastic. | | GodOfThunder (11), Orlando, Florida | | October 17, 2008 Great location, right off the center of the city. The big plus for tourists is the huge collection of glassware. They also have vintage Westys for a premium price. There is a guy who works here who also workes at the ’t IJ Brewery. Nice guy. Good store. |
