| Borresteijn (55), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 27, 2008 Typical Amsterdam style bruin café, lots of wood, warm interior indeed, ligths are dim. Prices are by far the highest of all beer bars in Amsterdam and they have the smallest selection of them all. They do have some harder to get by Lambic beers, so if you’re into those beers, this is your place. Friendly owners, both obvious Bourgondiërs (owner comes in and pours himself 3 flutes of Leffe from the tap in 5 minutes). | | ¾ (631), Boulder, Colorado | | June 4, 2008 Located in the NE extent of the red-light district, it’s a really comfortable brown bar with low ambient light, a classy, warm interior, and a bartender that is serious business. Don’t take pictures inside or otherwise goof off or you’ll be told to leave. Beer list on the wall has a few lambics here and there, a few trappists as well. Overall the selection is not stellar, but respectable. I would probably go back for the atmosphere, as long as there are no loud American kids at the bar as there was on my first visit. | | JoeinUccle (138), Brussels, Belgium | | May 20, 2008 Very cozy place whose selection emphasizes good taste. Compared to a couple of other places in town, the list of beers is relatively short. But there is loads of quality, including most of Belgium’s serious lambics. The Woman and I found this pub to be more comfortable, and less smoky, than most we visited on our trip. Too bad my bottle of Rochefort 6 was past its prime. | | Poperinge (121), Cowtown, Alberta | | March 2, 2008 Duchess on tap and they gave me glassware. The owner was very nice to us. | | Tim Webb (40), Cambridge, England | | January 1, 2008 [ Updated August 8, 2009 ] They stocked a wide range of authentic gueuzes and krieks including Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Lindemans’ proper ones and even De Troch for a time. Very Amsterdam inside. Manages to host life music occasionally. | | ogivlado (145), Zagreb, Croatia | | October 18, 2007 Nice decorated small place but rather dark. I was there about 6 p.m. and there was no one except me and my friend. Beer selection is very usual even for Croatian standards. Mostly Belgians, and like Rastacouere said nothing that a 1000+ ratings rater will looking for. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | September 5, 2007 A rather standard Amsterdam pub that happens to serve more beers than the average. Very close to the central station, but so are De Wildeman and Arendsnest. The focus is clearly on bottled Belgians, a fair selection of them, but nothing that a 1000+ ratings rater will be particularly looking for. Alright. | | altonbrownd (77), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | July 16, 2007 Very beautiful wood finished bar. Quite quaint and totally empty when I visited. The selection is not really noteworthy but it’s a safe-haven in what is one of the most awful areas of this city. Not much character tough, too stale. | | swoopjones (115), Buffalo, New York | | March 19, 2007 [ Updated September 17, 2007 ] A bit hard to find but worth the trip. A little quaint place with great Belgian selection. A bit too clean for my taste. Prefer the dingyness of Gollem | | Stew41 (71), Caulfield, Australia | | January 5, 2007 Amsterdam provides yet another take on the high end beer bar. Belgian bottle dominated with most prices sitting in the e3.50 - e.40 range, perhaps a touch on the high side. Key differential is the loungy, Parisian vibe - soft lights, drk wood, heavy padded chairs, antique bar fittings. Perhaps not a top 3 destination for this town but not far behind. |
