Oh yes, this is the kind of place I’m looking for while travelling. Amsterdam has a lot of bars with a good selection of Belgian beers, which is nice. But if I go to the Netherlands, I want to try some Dutch beers. So where do I go? To the Arendsnest of course. Centrally located by the Herengracht canal, not far from the other great beer place in Amsterdam, In De Wildeman. The whole bar is a long room along most of which is a beautiful bar shining with copper and brass. If the weather is good, there’s additional seating outside by the canal. Staff is friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable. 30 beers on tap, all of them are Dutch (ok, some are actually brewed in Belgium by dutch brewers, but lets skip the technicalities), most of them from small brewers. Impressive selection of bottled beers, with the ambition of having something from every brewery in the Netherlands. This really is a beer hunters dream. Lovely place, a must visit in Amsterdam. And I’ll be back.

There have been quite some reviews about this place, and there is not much to add. One thing, however, is worth knowing about the Arendsnest. Each year in October there is the Amsterdam Bokbierfestival. An insanely crowded affair which might not be everyone’s thing. But now for the good part: On the last day of the Bokbierfestival, after the winners were announced, you can find the winner of each category and the top ten overall on tap at the Arendsnest as long as stocks last. If you can’t be bothered to go to the Bokbierfestival, but still want to sample the cream of the crop, go to the Arendsnest on the monday after.

It is not the Old Amsterdam canalside setting, the confident decor or the helpful and knowledgeable bar staff that make this one of the best beer cafes in Europe but the sheer audacity of what it succeeds in doing. This cafe has the best selection of (mainly newer) Dutch beers anywhere. You can follow most of the story of modern Dutch brewing here. It is a concept as crazed as trying to run a French cider bar in Paris. It has helped raise the standards of Dutch brewing.

A must stop for any beer geek in Amsterdam. The place is slightly off the beaten path - meaning the street is more residential and dark compared to the uber-neon of the Red Light area not too far away - but well worth tracking down. No food, but the entire selection of beer is from NL. Nice tap selection and even more bottles and trust me, most of this never even thinks about making its way into the US. Staff is friendly and very knowledgable and the pricing is quite reasonable.

Visited February 2009. Best selection of Dutch beers I could find on tap in Amsterdam, and also a decent selection bottles. Friendly uniformed staff which take an interest in their products and profession. We got there early, but the place crowded up soon after. Recommended!

This was a really excellent bar and in a lovely canalside location. Served nothing other than Dutch beers with over thirty of these on tap at any one time. Barman was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this place if in Amsterdam I went back 2-3 three times.

Well, it is definitely the place to go for Dutch beer. It has most of them, good as well as bad. Even some vintage beers available. A small walk from the main streets in the middle of Jordaan and open all days, though only from 4 pm onwards. Good professional service- most of them (but not all) know their stuff. Considering the varying quality of Dutch beer, a knowing hand at the bar is absolutely necessary. A few more smiles would make this place even better. Food is limited to simple snacks. Mini-tastings possible. Less amicable and central than In de Wildeman, but with a more unique selection.

This is THE place in Amsterdam for Dutch beers, and not only because the bar itself says so. Their taps and bottles include all distributed Dutch breweries, and only Dutch breweries. Has a nice long bar inside, with some seating outside as well. We had a very nice salami and cheese plate to go with our beers while there. Prices for taps and bottles were good for the most part. You should definitely go here if you want Dutch rates, or just want to drink local beer.
