Yet another place I think should be removed from ratebeer. But with many ratings it’s obvious someone would add it back again. So I’m entering this just to say that there is nothing for the beer geek here. Second floor medium size pub. Typical North-America Irish pub atmosphere. A little too dark for my liking. Selection is just like any typical North-America Irish pub with Guiness, Boddingtons and the likes. No micro here. It was on the ratebeer map and I was walking around town so I walked in. If only the pub was cool but it is just a local low-profile hang-out. No need to say I didn’t even had a pint.

I ended up stumbling from the Portsmouth Brewery into this place after midnight one night and had a Fullers draft ESB which was pretty good. Only had the chips and salsa to eat, which was about the same as you get anywhere. Cozy feeling bar, but too smoky for me and nothing new to offer beer-wise.

May 2007. Yeah, it looks authentic enough -- well, authentic to a guy whose knowledge of English pubs is strictly second-hand -- but it’s an authentic pub filled with people you don’t want to hang around, extraordinarily smoky (why am I not surprised that you can still smoke in NH bars) and the beer selection leaves a LOT to be desired. Of course there is nothing on cask; the only drinkable pints when I visited were Fullers (ESB? don’t remember) and Hoegaarden which was actually fairly nice. I guess if you get bored of the Portsmouth BC you might want to pop over but otherwise forget it.

I’ll agree that this place is a authentic looking British pub, but I’ve never understood the charm that comes with a room filled smoke that never moves, uninspired greasy bar food and tap selection that never rotates and ignores the existance of good breweries in their hometown.

Great place to watch a soccer game in the states and enjoy a good selection of beers.

Quite authentic looking English/Irish pub, dark black wood interior, brass at the bar with an extensive whiskey selection and handpumped ale. Friendly environment, and though I didnt try the food, it looked good enough. Worth a stop in if you have some extra time in Portsmouth.
