10 reviews for Valley Wine & Spirits
| njmoons (14), New Jersey | | September 4, 2009 Stopped in Valley Wines and Spirits to see what they had.
It was a interesting mix of poor organization, bored employees, and a pretty good beer selection.
We went in and to the back for the beers. They have the mass market beers and major imports in the fridge. The micros/craft brewers were shelved on the floor.
Oddly, 1/3 of the fridge was empty, so why not cool some of the craft beers?
There is no logical organization to the craft beers. In some areas they are sorted by brewer, others areas by type, and other areas by no logical design. It took a long time to get a feel for what they had.
After I looked at what they had, they had a lot. In particular I like that they break out 12 oz singles, so I can inexpensively try new beers. There are quite a few craft brewers represented, and a good selection of 750’s. I thought the cost was slightly higher than the area competition.
I will go back, mostly because it is convenient and for the selection of 12 oz singles.
Could be a really good beer stop, but they would have to make an effort. | neatocore (1), does not count - explanation | | August 14, 2007 I go there alot at least once a week. The store seems like it has been improving over the past month or so, they even started selling sinlges again on top of having a decent bomber selection. Its a large store and for a beer lover you can always find something you like, you wont walk away unhappy or empty handed. | beermonger1973 (1), does not count - explanation | | July 23, 2007 What a Change ! Came into the store over a year ago and wasn’t impressed. Lacked customer service. Been back , and as of late the place is terrific! Better selection, and the employees are eager to help. Definitely pleased at were the store is now, but has a little more to go to be outstanding. | | mkobes (49), paramus, New Jersey | | June 22, 2007 I have been here many times. I used to go to school right there. The beer selection is good. No singles though. Six packs. You can get Dogfish Head, Weyerbacher, and others. Decent place. | | HoppityHop (49), New Jersey | | January 30, 2007 [ Updated August 6, 2008 ] The selection at Valley is above average and pricing is good on most items, but stock can sometimes be rather old. The staff is totally clueless........about beer AND basic retail skills. Items rarely ring up for the right amount and your checkout experience can be a total horror story. Management needs to get this place in check. Valley used to be decent, now I recommend avoiding it like VD. (Update: They’re now allowing singles and have been weeding out most of the moronic employees.....unfortunately, it looks like it’s too late, from the amount of empty shelf space, I’d say this place is on borrowed time.) | | puzzl (72), New York, New York | | July 28, 2006 Definitely no singles allowed here, which is sad as they had a good selection of six packs. Not so many big bottles. Can get Yards, Weyerbacher, Hannsens lambics, Troegs, Victory, a bunch more. Prices are very low. They need to step it up and allow singles. | | hophead75 (83), Boonton, New Jersey | | June 21, 2006 [ Updated January 14, 2007 ] I was looking for a bottle shop here in my area that would allow me to buy singles out of 6 packs. Called them and asked them if that is allowed. The guy on the phone said yes, we do allow that. After doing about 30 minutes worth of shopping and having a handbasket full of singles, The cashier and manager gave me a dumbfounded look when I went to ring up my order, like I was on crack. So it was a complete waste of my time. To make a long story short, the workers have no idea of what is going on there. | jon112981 (4), Chevy Chase, Maryland does not count - explanation | | June 27, 2005 This place is great. They have a lot of different beers and a LOT of great ones. I highly recomend this place but be warned: The kids at the register are INCOMPETENT. I bought a 12 ounce bottle of something they sold in a six pack and got charged for the six pack. Didn’t notice until I was home in Maryland. Just check your stuff. But if you are in North Jersey this is THE place to go for beers. | xray (9), Bloomfield, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | June 12, 2005 This place is huge! I don’t know of a place in North Jersey that has a wider beer selection than here and the prices are decent. Its also in a prime location and is pretty busy, which should insure a high turnover rate. Their web-site doesn’t have a beer list (though they do have a wine list) but if you type the name of the beer you’re looking for in their search feature, it will let you know if they carry it and also give you a price. If you buy wine, sign up for their free club card (unfortunately, Its never good for beer). Bonus: If you go on a Saturday afternoon, there is usually a free wine tasting featuring about four different wines. | | Lou18 (23), West Paterson, New Jersey | | December 12, 2004 [ Updated March 11, 2005 ] This is a wine and beer store, kind of set up like a warehouse. There are two guys in charge, Rick and Drew. Rick is a BEER guy. Knows his brews, and service is excellent. |
