Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of this reveiw, or whether that station will be held by anyone else, these words must show. And so begins the David Copperfield of Charles Dickens - if he had rated beer bars. In the remoteness of the Upper West Side, where few with souls tread, there is one oasis in the sea of beer mediocrity; and that oasis is David Copperfields. It is small in area. There is a long marble topped bar on the left as you enter. Opposite this, a few hightops, arbitrarily scatered along the wall. Towards the rear, enroute to the downstairs loo, is a small dining area. Rotated frequently, their beer selection excels in that it offers something for every palate, style and taste. During my visit, there was an abudance of Colorado crafts on tap. (See my reveiw for Rattle N Hum.) The service was friendly, efficient and professional - the bartender was equipped with a varitable arsenal of beer knowledge (Not that your hero needed any, of course.) While the food was basic, it was tasty, filling and reasonably priced. In any case, David Copperfield has many specials throughtout the week. So, if you happen to be in the Yorkville neighborhood and seek a pleasant quaff, stop by for a pint, because, as Wilkins Micawber would say (while scanning the extensive beer menu), something will surely turn up. Why, I bet he’d even toast Uriah Heep and Jane Murdstone!

Copperfield’s has a consistently strong tap selection in a somewhat beer deprived area (which, incidentally, has about third the number of people of vermont. or wyoming), the good old UES. On the last trip of mine to Copperfield’s, while working in the neighborhood, I had the Fuller’s ESB which was poured extremely well and was kept at the proper temp. Welcome atmosphere and reasonable prices make this a strong neighborhood spot. Just a shame it’s practically in Queens. If you can make the trip over to York in th late afternoon, or work in the area, be sure to check out the happy hour special, during which you have a great chance to try some pretty exceptional beers for $4.

I’m probably getting jaded, but to me Copperfields is only a pretty good beer bar, not in the first rank. The atmosphere is great, clean with classic pub decor, lots of old beer signs and posters. The beer menu is sizable but not huge, but most craft brewers are represented by no more than two beers, except for Smuttynose, Ommegang, and DFH. The fact that they have 120 Minute IPA and Worldwide Stout (in bottles) is a huge plus, but there’s not a lot more that’s really unusual. The waiter may or may not have been beer-savvy, but he made some good recommendations. Food was solid pub fare. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood, but if you’re up for going out of your way, you’re much better off heading south to the Blind Tiger or dba.

Was in the neighborhood and ran in for a quick pop. I had been there years before when I lived nearby and remember the food to be better than average bar food. On this trip I found 30 tap beers, well 29 coors light was on tap, but the others were a decent micro brew selection with 4 Lagunitas varieties, smuttynose, goose head, dogfish head, north coast and others. Smallish bottle selection, with a lacking belgian section. No need to run out of your way to this place, but no reason not to stop in if you are close by.

Always a good tap selection at DC whenever I have been there. The food is also pretty good and they have a variety to choose from. A bit far out from where I usually go in the city but its worth the trip up or if you are in the area certianly worth a visit. I like the casks fest they usually do once a year too.

the place is clean and full of rich eastside people eccentric and somewhat friendly though apprehensive within themselves. the bar is marble and the ambiance and service is good. they like ratebeer. the prices are too high except for drafts which are fairly reasonable. the food is crafty and ok.

Had to take a cab here, it’s way off from all the others. Small bar with a long bar and some seats, real quaint. Good selection of beers with 1 cask although a bunch were out which made the selection pretty slim. Service was good and there wasn’t very many people there at night. Prices were good, beer was decent, but the selection was not that great.

Good selection of taps and bottles, nothing amazing though. Ambiance was typical beer bar atmosphere. Pricing was reasonable. Best part was getting a free $12 bottle as the bartender wanted to try it and said it was free if she could have a shot of it. Didn’t eat there.

Good bar with lots of taps, except the selection was very mundane. All easy to find stuff. Also, the condition of the keg of Dale’s Pale I drank was very questionable; I’d wager that it was at least 3 weeks old, and the beer was very very faded. Food was pretty good.
