12 reviews for Heartland Brewery (South St. Seaport)
| tgncc (24), Bellmore, New York | | April 4, 2009 I’ve been going here for years, and it never occurred to me to rate it. The ambiance is one of the nicest aspects, a real old fashioned looking pub. The service is excellent, but of course it’s better if you are a regular. The staff is generally knowledgable about the beers they serve. I tend to like Heartland’s brews, although they are seldom among the very best, the beers they serve are eclectic, and greatly varied. The selection could be improved here; they need to get more beers on tap than 2 or 3 seasonals and 6 regulars. The food here also lags behind other Heartland establishments, but is decent food overall and reasonably priced. The value is decent for this type of establishment in downtown Manhattan. Overall a decent place to top in you are visting the downtown area. | | beerbill (43), Laurel, New York | | May 26, 2008 I visted this location with my family on a day trip into the city. We stopped by for lunch. We were served quickly and courteously, and I enjoyed the Oatmeal Stout very much. The food, while tasty, was meager. I had the chili, which had a few beans, two or three pieces of meat, a couple of chopped tomato pieces and three taco chips. Seemed more like a soup than chili. I looked around and the burgers seemed more substantial, so if I go back, I think that’s while I’ll be ordering. Worth stopping by if you’re in the area, but not worth a special trip. | | DuctTape (10), Toronto, Ontario | | May 20, 2008 The beer wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t worth a return visit. We spent an evening on the patio, which while nice for the fresh air, is basically underneath the FDR. Nothing so charming as a patio under a highway in a historic district. The food was passable pub fare, not great, not terrible. It definitely had that chain-pub feel even though i have not been to the other NYC heartlands. | | yobdoog (92), Woodridge NY, New York | | February 6, 2008 I love goin to South St. and there is not too much as far as beer goes right in the square. No problem throwing a few back at this more cozy location. Slightlymore pub like than the other locations but still is a heartland and noticably a chain. Not bad overall. | | Chapel (16), Levittown, New York | | October 20, 2007 [ Updated October 26, 2009 ] I tend to agree with the previous raters. Food is par, service is subpar, beer is on the level of other brewpubs. This bar would work much better if the service was better and there was some better lighting. On the plus side the sampler is cheap. | | notalush (159), Denver, Colorado | | September 17, 2007 Oh, hey, someone finally enter this location on the site - I went to this one after heading down to the seaport to see the Bodies exhibit - this place is downright microscopic - we went in to try to get a table, and the help just left us to wander around the restaurant ourselves for a while, until one server finally noticed we were walking around the place and asked us in an annoyed tone if we needed a seat - our waiter took about 10 minutes to get to us - the beers arrived about another 10 mintes after we ordered them - and it just went on and on from there - just downright terrible. | wingman333 (5), San Antonio, Texas does not count - explanation | | July 6, 2007 Food and service average for most places, particularly below average for NYC! I would not bother to go to this place, unless you like subpar food, average beer, and touristy places. If you’re in NY don’t waste your time or money. Plus will they please tell the guy with the electric violin TO GET LOST!!!! | | bhensonb (287), Woodland, California | | July 4, 2007 Got in when the tourists were on the waterfront. Great place to sit, and the beer is not so bad. I’d go back in a heartbeat. | | UofFkid (32), Orlando, Florida | | May 24, 2007 We previously had visited the other Hearland locations. This location left a lot to offer. The bar was small, the TV’s were horribly located. We did not enjoy this location as much as other’s in the city. Great beer, just better consumed elsewhere. | | AllAboutStout (30), Cincinnati, Ohio | | April 11, 2007 Made a point to stop in here while on a business trip to lower Manhattan.
How could I not, Beer and Barbecue!
Rather small bar area, but it was mid-afternoon and not that crowded yet. It’s in a very interesting part of lower Manhattan. A very scenic and nice place. One of my favorites spots on the trip. Everything was pretty average though. Nothing set this place apart from anywhere else I’ve been.
Beers were decent, BBQ was aight.
If you’re in the area and need a pint, it’s the best thing going.
