September 28, 2008 I like this place, a lot! Not the best beers in the world, but certainly a great place for session drinking and good company. Burgers are the best in New York |

August 27, 2008 Fantastic history here. Loud, plenty of dust and sawdust. Drunk NYU kids were a common sight when I was there. Barkeep was suprisingly attentive, never had to wait for a beer even though it was shoulder-to-shoulder. I’d go back for the fun atmosphere, not so much the beer. |

August 17, 2008 Great drinking spot. I usually order myself two beers at a time, but here I dont have to. Nice old school irish pub atmosphere with an old timey feel. There is sawdust on the floor, it smells like the basements of my old favorite college drinking houses and they only serve two beers. Pretty sweet. |

July 22, 2008 Light or dark? not too difficult of a decision. NYC Landmark. Great old NYC pictures & ambiance. Dark was drinkable. Great huge urinals. Must visit for nostaglia not for the beer |

July 8, 2008 What to have, the light ale or the dark ale? OK, this is not a beer mecca at all, but it is a fun place to visit to have a beer for the historical value. Its old, funky, historical and if they are busy, you will get thrown out if you are not drinking fast enough. Visit the place for fun and get real beer down the block. |

June 22, 2008 Of historical value only. The beer is horrible, worse than Bud. The place smells. You will wait on line for 30 minutes. You will certainly meet some NY characters and have some craic but just not worth it. |

May 20, 2008 Its an NYC institution for its age, but i was not blown away, went in quickly and had the dark, i found the staff to be pretty surly and not at all helpful. I understand that the place has traditions and expects people to do things in a certain way, but given its status as essentially a tourist attraction in its own right now, they need to be a bit more understanding of those who have never been there before and treat their customers just a bit better. Still, its worth a visit for a round if you are in the east village, though only just. |

April 2, 2008 Bring cash. This place is always busy. If you have exact change you will be the waiter/bartenders favorite customer. This place is a must for your out of town guests. Its constantly being covered by some documentary or tv show. This place has tons of history and character. |

February 5, 2008 Light or Dark baby. Gotta love it. I mean the beer isn’t the greatest ever but is really drinkable and is such a great fun place with the same old decor that has been around forever. I always take friends who are visisting the city to put back a few mugs in this NYC old establishment that I hope is around forever. |

December 3, 2007 This is a New York staple. I have been going for years. It is always packed and loud and fun. Peter, one of the waiters, has been working there longer than I have been alive. Great place to start a night out. Just walk in, grab a few seats at any table, chat up whoever is also sitting with you, order a burger, a cheese and cracker plate, and 8 darks. |
