Peculier Pub is a no-pretenses, basement bar with lots of old wood tables and a dimly lit, dank atmosphere located very close to New York University in the heart of Greenwich Village. Peculier Pub can be quite crowded on weekends while NYU is in session, yet you’ll be rewarded for your troubles by an immense 300-bottle beer list that’s certain to offer you something you’ve never had before. The selection categorizes beers by country, and has a dizzying variety of obscure ethnic beers from far-flung nations you’d have trouble locating on a map. Beer from Bhutan, anyone?

NJBeerman013 (5), Trenton, New Jersey does not count | | September 2, 2008 This is my kind of bar. It is a no-nonsense, no glitz, no glamor kind of place. Bring cash, they don’t take credit. The room is dark, the food is good and cheap, the beer is plentiful (300 + options). The service when I was there was outstanding. The bartender was beautiful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Awesome place. | | LilBeerDoctor (17), East Setauket, New York | | August 5, 2008 Decent bar. They have a large beer list (although most of it is pale lagers from different countries). Draught list is middling. Some of the bottles are a bit old. Really good prices for this area though. I didn’t like how they charged our table after each round instead of setting up a tab. They don’t take cash either. On a random note, on the back wall by the bathroom is an awesome mural made out of bottle caps!! Anyway to sum, wide selection (country-wise) but no rare beers per se. Ok place to stop for a couple of drinks. | | swoopjones (74), Buffalo, New York | | July 22, 2008 Dcent basement bar. Drawn to by decent beer bar neons. Huge bottle selection decent draft choices. Pretty good choice | | dchmela (40), Orlando, Florida | | July 8, 2008 Visited on 4th of July. I have been here many times during my college years, but my first time as a beer hunter and found it decent. The tap and bottle selection was great and the bartender knew her stuff. I probably enjoyed it more being on a holiday and no NYU students, because I remember how crowded this place can get (and its not a big place). For a dive, the food was not bad, as long as you don’t mind fried. | | Beese (50), Watford, England | | July 4, 2008 [ Updated September 4, 2008 ] The place comes across as a bit of a dive, but it’s actually fairly welcoming once you get accustomed to it (took me a few minutes). It wasn’t particularly busy when we went in and we got a table right away. The draft list is pretty weak, I think I only had one daft beer in there. The bottle list on the other hand in very extensive and has a great selection of beers from all over the world at fairly reasonable prices ($4.25 most of them cost). The food is good value and edible, if not amazing. The one bad thing about this place is that the pricing seemed rather weird to me the bottled beers were mostly $4.25, but when I brought one plus a cola for my friend the bill somehow came to $7, what’s more odd is that on the occasions I had to order at the bar because the service was too slow (rather understaffed, in fairness) the same round cost me $8. They say they charge a 17.5% commission (no need to tip), but they seemed to charge an arm and a leg for cola, which was a pain because from a beer point of view this place was easily the cheapest bar I went to in NY. So a good place for beer, but don’t take a non-drinker... | | rlgk (79), Motala, Sweden | | March 10, 2008 Quite dark place, evening in the afternoon. Very silent when I visited. Decent selection of beers anda place I would not mind visiting again. A place to try a beer and tweo, before moving on the some other pubs in the area. | | yobdoog (88), Woodridge, New York | | February 5, 2008 The walls are covered in this dark place. The bartenders are always friendly and the selection is pretty good. Not rare stuff but still a fun place to throw a few back especially if you are on a crawl. Usually have a descent amount of taps and bottles so you have something to choose from. | | JoeMcPhee (201), Jackson Heights, New York | | January 7, 2008 A dim, dank, dirty NYU bar. Decent tap list and well priced, although there are far better bars within walking distance. Gets pretty loud and packed later in the evenings, but in the early afternoon, it’s not a bad place to kill a few pints. Don’t expect good service. It’s not really my kind of place. | | unclemattie (90), Georgia | | December 23, 2007 I was here in Dec 2002. It was definitly the place to go. All i remember was an unbelievable list of Belgian Beers. Ones I had never heard of. The girl tending bar was extremely knowledgable. Had a good time, until I answered my cell phone. Not an exceptable practice. Good beer though. | | BREWMUSKCLES (32), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey | | November 20, 2007 socializm in beer. they have a lot of beer. the place is none to assuming, and somewhat inadequate in service and ambiance. they charge a service charge per order therefore they certainly behave different from any place in the usa. i go to the area and usually end up walking over to the associated supermarket across the street and get something good to take home instead. | View Page : 1 2 3
