7 reviews for Bohemian Hall Beer Garden
| Chapel (16), Levittown, New York | | October 27, 2009 This place is more about the experience than the beer selection. That being said, they aren’t serving the crap that most bars do. Now, not to sound like a lush, but one of the most entertaining things about this place was that the beers were served in rather hefty glasses. Sort of a quantity to make up for the lack of quality type of thing. This is the perfect place to go with a bunch of friends who are interested in new beer experiences.
From my recollection, the crowd was young professions, but that might have been because guys who graduated from college with me made up a decent chunk of the crowd in the outdoor seating area that night. | | spkldhenlvr24 (28), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York | | October 24, 2009 Went here a few years ago when a buddy lived in Astoria at the time. Really cool spot in Queens. We went with a group of about ten on a Sat. night and it was slammed, but we managed to find a table, which we didn’t leave all night. Big outdoor drinking area with a bunch of picnic tables. People playing chess, flipcup, eating, relaxing, kids. Two bars serving some solid Czech and German beers, but nothing too exciting( I can’t remember which ones.) The thing which killed me was $18 dollars a pitcher. Yikes. It might be even more now. But it is NYC soo whatever. Overall really fun place to hang out in Queens. | | Leighton (19), New York, New York | | August 8, 2009 I checked it out on Thursday night. The vibe was incredble: families, groups of friends, children, elderly - all types of people mingling together. There was live music and a small concrete stage where several young children danced to the jazz standards played by the band. I had two beers that night, Hennepin and Golen Pheasant, but I know that the BHBG has numerous other beers on tap. I also had the BBQ baby back ribs, which were not very good. Fatty meat, poorly seasoned...lesson learned. I would definitely go back to this beer garden. | | Pwn3d (38), Manhattan, New York | | May 25, 2009 Went here Summer of 08. Not a massive selection. However, you can get some very nice Bohemian Pils, German Hefes, and Oktoberfest offerings. Other highlights - Massive outdoor area with plenty of picnic tables, traditional music, delicious german sausages. Very fun. | | Capa (80), Yokosuka, Japan | | August 11, 2008 Huge outdoor social area is this bar’s greatest feature. The beers on tap aren’t out of this world, but they are fairly quality European brews. 15 buck pitchers seemed par for the area. Even with all the space and seating, finding a spot for the three of us was difficult. Great place to go with a group of friends as long as you don’t the possibility of standing for a while. The food was excellent. The kielbasa went well with their beer selection, too. Completely different than most any other place in NYC. | | yobdoog (92), Woodridge NY, New York | | February 7, 2008 Agree with most of what Peter said. Actually he said it all. In the summer this place is great. Used to go here a lot from college in the city with massive amounts of people because the outdoors is enourmous. A descent selection of German brews and has an authentic beer garden feel. Lots of fun and easy to get to by subway. | | PilsnerPeter (95), Flushing, New York | | July 19, 2006 [ Updated September 22, 2006 ] This place doesn’t have a great selection for some of us real beer geeks out there, however, it’s an amazing place to go with a few friends. They have your generic German hefeweizens and lagers. There’s most bottles you can get anywhere else with some others. There taps always change, but they always have Pilsner Urquell, Budvar (Czechvar), Hoegaarden, Erdinger, Spaten, Paulaner, Burgerbrau, Warsteiner, Staropramen and others. It’s a huge outdoor area, surrounded by high stone walls. Reminds me of a Renaissance Festival type place. The ambience is amazing on a cool summer night or crisp Autumn night. They have an indoor bar with about 10 on tap which vary, and a decent bottle selection. There’s also an outdoor bar just like the inside one, along with a hot grill for burgers, czech sausages, dumplings and some other great, inexpensive foods. If you go here it’s for a nice eveing with friends, not a night to find a rare brew or top quality trappist. A must for people in the NYC area. |
