9 reviews for Heinzelmännchen Brewery
| lithy (103), Knoxville, Tennessee | | October 27, 2009 So much thanks to Dieter and Sheryl for holding the door open for us at just 5 minutes to closing. We were passing through on a trip for the weekend and got a later than expected start but that didn’t stop them from having us for about 30 minutes to do a tasting. They had 7 beers on tap, 2 sodas, which I was impressed with the majority. Cool little town they are right on the main street in Sylva. Growlers were out of my price range since I wouldn’t be returning, refills were reasonable though. I made a donation for my sampler and we headed out. Could also be your one stop shop for garden gnomes. I wish them luck. | | sebletitje (80), Tampa, Florida | | July 25, 2009 Nestled in the nice town of Sylva, it was one of our stop going thru the Smokeys.
They had 6-7 beers on tap, one root beer, and sodas on draft.
Heinzelmännchen means gnome in German so the inside is filled with little gnomes and the atmosphere is very basic if you enjoy to chat about beer, they will gladly answer all your questions.
All samplers were free, and beer was available in growlers.
We got the nice German style growler of Scotch. 2 liters with the growler runs about 35$ with he jug being worth at least 20$
It’s a nice small place with the owners and a student running the brewery. Owner still delivers all his beers. Friendly and definitely worth a stop. Good people!
They sell some local produces, tshirts. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | March 9, 2009 Very small brewery located in downtown Sylva, which is a very charming mountain town. The people here were extraordinarily nice, including the brewmaster who was eager to show off his setup, answer questions and get feedback. They brew extract but do a much better job than other breweries I’ve visited with the same setup. The beers were all solid with a standout or two. Unfortunately, they only sell their beers in high priced fancy growlers. They are happy to give samples, though, and if the growlers are too pricy for your budget then there are several bars within walking distance that carry their beers on tap. | TikiE (6), Sylva, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | February 26, 2008 I love this local brewery! All of these beers and tasty and unique, and you can find them almost everywhere in Sylva. Dieter and who ever else is working there are extremely nice and are very helpful when picking out the beer you want. They ever have root beer for the people who arent 21. The only thing I wish for this brewery is that it would make a higher alcohol beer, but in all its a great place that you should check out when your in the small town of Sylva! | Collint (8), Sylva , North Carolina does not count - explanation | | January 30, 2008 [ Updated August 13, 2009 ] Main Street Sylva. When you walk in, you will actually see the brewer and wife, most of the time. Dieter, the brewer is eager for you to try his beers and will talk to you as long as you want. They gave me a free beer glass for my birthday when I bought a 5 gallon keg of Middle World Brown. They supply most resturaunts locally, the beer is clean and refreshing, never gives me hang over becuase he dosn’t put shit in his beer. I wish they made higher alcohol beers, something like a double IPA or something. Overall its great place. Rerate, he made a DIPA, it was pretty good. | | Jmichael (34), Asheville, North Carolina | | August 12, 2007 Small brewery, but that is what I like. You meet the owner and brewer slaving away, giving you tastings, and even ringing you up. They make other stuff too, and root beer for the kids. neat place, and fun visit in a nice small mountain town. neat to see. | | tronraner (100), Seymour, Tennessee | | December 24, 2006 Very interesting hole in the wall brewery. It’s nice that the brewmaster works the taps and is more than ready to talk about his beers to anyone interested in them. Free samples of anything, and growlers for sale. The beer itself isn’t superior, but it’s a pretty cool place to stop if you find yourself in Sylva. | | NachlamSie (213), Tennessee | | August 23, 2006 This brewery is pretty bare with just the bare minimum necessary to make it an interesting stop for the beer enthusiast. The owner/operators are very nice and extremely helpful. They are eager to provide tastings and to talk about their beer and its availability. I bought a pint glass here and some of their root beer which is really tasty. They have top-of-the-line growlers with an airtight seal cap which run $39, but refills are only $7-8. I really enjoy the friendliness and the idea of having a little hometown brewery provide the beer for all the local restaurants downtown. Unfortunately, the beer itself leaves something to be desired. | Bassy15 (1), Cullowhee, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | January 30, 2006 This place is simply a local brewery. it is not a lounge or diner. Go in, buy a growler full of beer, maybe a keg and talk to Deeter. |
