| biznizness (25), Mooresville, North Carolina | | December 22, 2009 Absolutely love this place. Awesome dive bar atmosphere, with a great basement, combined with a pretty good tap selection (and great bottle selection in the basement). Best part... $2 IMPERIAL pints of anything on tap as a special. One of my favorite places to spend a night in Winston. | | adavis234 (10), Columbia, South Carolina | | January 22, 2009 Although there isn’t an incredible selection here, this is one of the most enjoyable, hole-in-the-wall bars in Winston-Salem. It can get crowded since it is so small but it is a great place to stop for a little while on an evening out in downtown. | | Butters (151), Virginia | | August 10, 2008 This place was actually pretty chill. The bar area seemed a little crowded for my taste but not excessively noisy. As said by others, not a large quantity of taps, but a good selection of NC beers. A good place to shoot pool and have a decent pint of beer...As you walk from the MellowMushroom to Foothills. | | tronraner (100), Seymour, Tennessee | | December 24, 2006 This is basically a little hole-in-the-wall pool hall bar. They don’t have all that many draughts, but one of them was Rabid Duck, several months after its production. Good social atmosphere. I don’t recommend it for rating except maybe to see if they have anything weird, but it’s a good place for a pint with the peeps. | | NachlamSie (213), Tennessee | | September 16, 2006 This is a small pool hall with minimal decor. It can get pretty crowded on the weekend, which is understandable. I like how it has a very simple, divy feel but still packs an adequate beer selection. With plenty of regionals, imports, and better-known micros, there is something here for most everyone. I was stunned to see they still had the Rabid Duck eight months after its release. I revisited that tasty brew here in all of its glory. Recreation is easily one of the better places to hit on a Winston-Salem bar hop. | | Veeve (22), Winston-Salem, North Carolina | | June 3, 2006 [ Updated June 5, 2006 ] Pete, the long-time owner has been quoted as describing his bar as " the working man’s country club." Stop by and see if you agree. But here’s what I think...
This bar is a piece of Winston history. Owned by Pete (since the 1940’s and by his father in the 30’s before that), George (Pete’s son) and Tom (Pete’s nephew), this place has undergone a total renovation and finally reopened. 2 flat screened tvs are found above the bar, playing sports, and 3 pool tables are in the back for $8 per hr to play. Plenty of beers are on tap including Big Boss, Sierra’s Summerfest, Duck-Rabbit Russian Imperial Stout and Chamay Triple. Good beers will be on an ever-changing basis and Tom is open to suggestions for what to carry. Noteworthy is that it will soon be the only bar in Winston that carries Magic Hat brands. Downstairs will open as a "dive-bar" around early Fall, w/ fooseball, darts and other games to add to the upstair’s pool tables. This is a much more chill atmosphere than the louder, younger and more party place, Foothills, just down the street. Good place to relax w/ the guys (or girls), watch the game and play some pool.
