| Oakes (323), Miami Beach, Florida | | September 26, 2008 Small store with a small selection, but most notable for having lineups from a few breweries not normally seen in NS. Great prices on the DDC line. | | DuffMan (52), Calgary , Alberta | | October 30, 2007 I’d forgetten that I hadn’t rated this place until recently, when I phoned them to check on their inventory of Propeller Pumpkin Ale prior to my parents coming out for a visit to Calgary. The service is among the very best I’ve had in any beer store. The selection, if kept in the context of the Canadian maritimes, is excellent, but by most other larger centre’s standards would be considered modest. A good representation of East Coast micros, including some from Newfoundland depending on your timing. There is a smattering of quality American offerings (Rogue in particular), as well as some good UK (Sam Smith’s Broughton) and Belgian offerings. | | Geth_in_beer (40), Nova Scotia | | October 13, 2007 So glad I found this place. Enough selection to last me a while. And they have Sam Smiths! Excellent. Selection of Canadian beers which I was pleased to see as I need to get some more Canadian beers rated. Nice store. | | muzzlehatch (255), Burlington, Vermont | | May 22, 2007 This is a really pleasant, rather highbrow establishment in an upscale downtown mall, reminiscent of some of the nicer-looking stores in Montreal. As porterhouse mentions, it has a boutique feel to it and when I visited for about 1/2 hour I was the only customer so I got great service. The selection is the best I saw in the Atlantic provinces -- which isn’t saying much -- I managed to find about a dozen products from Garrison, Picaroon’s, Propeller etc and they even had some Rogue. Nice little wine and whisky selection including Cape Breton’s Glen Breton single malt (though that is at a much higher price than I saw it elsewhere). I’d say it’s a must if you’re in Halifax. | | porterhouse (35), Alna, Maine | | May 17, 2007 Located in a small shopping center in the city. I was there on a Monday when the hours were 10-5. Different than most beer stores I am used to in the States, in that this actually is more like, as the name says, a boutique. More wine than beer. Bottles are all nicely displayed on nice shelves in smallish quantities. Amount of inventory and selection certainly won’t overwhelm you but they had what I wanted so I was happy. Will probably find all the local stuff you’d want. Person working there was very pleasant and willing to help. | Mandrake (7), Antigonish, Nova Scotia does not count | | February 13, 2007 Currently the best location for bottled beer in the province, their selection is unparalleled. Friendly staff who tend to know their stuff, and beer is almost always well-handled. They’ve got a cooler in the back now for some of their storage. | | pootzboy (11), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta | | August 31, 2006 Good place for micro imports and some belgian but the selection is limited. I got some flying fish as they were out of the Rogue ales I was looking for....got some canned witbier that was OK....if they expand their beer selection and get iyt in a cooler out of the light this COULD be haliax’s best bottle shop. | | destroye7 (10), Melbourne, Australia | | March 13, 2006 Lot of cool stuff. Belgium beers, Canadians beers (Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario, BC). Some american beers. A few wine bottle and a few spirits bottles (vodka, gin, etc). The beer got a decent selection. What you find there, you don’t find it at the liquor store. I got a bunch of belgium ales for a pretty decent price. Staff was nice. | | jerc (121), Toronto, Ontario | | October 29, 2005 New location is pretty nice. Staff was friendly and indulged a back pack wearing student who probably didnt look like he was going to drop the coin he ended up spending here. Lots of interesting stuff for Halifax, some belgians and american micros. The highlight when I was there was a lot of Rogue, and Pacific Western Brewing stuff we don’t normally see. One cautionary note is that some of the less popular stuff may have been on the shelf for a while. Next Rogue order supposed to be even more brands. The trick seems to be to check back often. | | albert_007 (13), Penobsquis, New Brunswick | | September 18, 2005 [ Updated September 29, 2005 ] Under constrution...resulting dust on the bottles was good for ambiance. Best selection of quality beers I’ve found in Halifax. I am now a Rogue fan thanks to this spot. Friendly staff.
