| Lubiere (177), Ottawa, Ontario | | October 19, 2009 This is probably the best bottle shop in Halifax. Excellent serive with beer knowledgeable staff, DDC available, good selection of NS and NB beers, ciders...gives the NSLC a run for its money. Its located in City Centre, right next to Pete’s Frootique (toodeloo). | | Spab (25), Toronto, Ontario | | August 19, 2009 Popped in while in Halifax on a trip out east. Some good unique stuff available especially east coast (Garrison, Propeller and Pump House), DDC beers and a smattering of interesting US stuff. Certainly a number of things one’s not finding in the LCBO. Thought the layout was a little odd - no apparent logic to the beer layout. Really good value on Canadian beers, less so on the US ones. Glad I stopped in. | | mabel (134), Toronto, Ontario | | April 25, 2009 Visited on a Sunday after in November, I picked up most of my return-trip items here. It’s surprising how crappy some of the beers are, next to ones that absolutely amazing. The goods included tons of Nova Scotia brews (Propellor, Garrison), many Rogue bombers, and there were a couple nasty ’finds’ but overall a great place to stock up. The staff was especially surprised at our haul, asking if ALL of them were different?! -- and then bugged out at our final total (~$100, mostly reasonable). Guess they’re used to students coming by filling up on cases. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | December 30, 2008 Small store with what seems like an incredible amount of wasted space. Has a few things that you probably will not find anywhere else, but it doesnt really have a very broad selection at all. | | Oakes (422), gone rambling, Cambodia | | September 26, 2008 Small store with a small selection, but most notable for having lineups from a few breweries not normally seen in NS. Great prices on the DDC line. | | DuffMan (97), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta | | October 30, 2007 I’d forgetten that I hadn’t rated this place until recently, when I phoned them to check on their inventory of Propeller Pumpkin Ale prior to my parents coming out for a visit to Calgary. The service is among the very best I’ve had in any beer store. The selection, if kept in the context of the Canadian maritimes, is excellent, but by most other larger centre’s standards would be considered modest. A good representation of East Coast micros, including some from Newfoundland depending on your timing. There is a smattering of quality American offerings (Rogue in particular), as well as some good UK (Sam Smith’s Broughton) and Belgian offerings. | | Gethinbeer (65), Nova Scotia | | October 13, 2007 So glad I found this place. Enough selection to last me a while. And they have Sam Smiths! Excellent. Selection of Canadian beers which I was pleased to see as I need to get some more Canadian beers rated. Nice store. | | muzzlehatch (255), Burlington, Vermont | | May 22, 2007 This is a really pleasant, rather highbrow establishment in an upscale downtown mall, reminiscent of some of the nicer-looking stores in Montreal. As porterhouse mentions, it has a boutique feel to it and when I visited for about 1/2 hour I was the only customer so I got great service. The selection is the best I saw in the Atlantic provinces -- which isn’t saying much -- I managed to find about a dozen products from Garrison, Picaroon’s, Propeller etc and they even had some Rogue. Nice little wine and whisky selection including Cape Breton’s Glen Breton single malt (though that is at a much higher price than I saw it elsewhere). I’d say it’s a must if you’re in Halifax. | | porterhouse (45), Alna, Maine | | May 17, 2007 Located in a small shopping center in the city. I was there on a Monday when the hours were 10-5. Different than most beer stores I am used to in the States, in that this actually is more like, as the name says, a boutique. More wine than beer. Bottles are all nicely displayed on nice shelves in smallish quantities. Amount of inventory and selection certainly won’t overwhelm you but they had what I wanted so I was happy. Will probably find all the local stuff you’d want. Person working there was very pleasant and willing to help. | Mandrake (8), Dublin, Ireland does not count - explanation | | February 13, 2007 Currently the best location for bottled beer in the province, their selection is unparalleled. Friendly staff who tend to know their stuff, and beer is almost always well-handled. They’ve got a cooler in the back now for some of their storage. |
