RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
The sister of Barley’s Ale House #1 downtown, the Smokehouse stocks a similar list of great beers while having its own identity. Hosts the annual Mini RAF, Oysters & Stout, and other events. You can’t go wrong with a visit.

| Rastacouere (408), Montréal, Quebec | | September 25, 2008 Fair BBQ food accompanied 5 different beers on draught and a solid selection of 6-8 guest Midwest classics. We stopped by around noon, so the palce was mostly empty though a couple of tables were filled with people who came to listen to the football. The building is very large, multi-roomed and has a welcoming quality to its dark brown interior and sharp glasses, but the area was depressive, an industrial boulevard with little activity, well outside downtown. The 5 house beers were a lot more satisfying than what I had at Barley’s no. 1. Both IPA’s were brightly hopped and the others at least were less watery. | | DragonStout (55), Orlando, Florida | | July 1, 2008 Stopped here on my visit to Buckeye country.Heard the food was excellet so I needed to see for myself. The peeps were right. Very good BBQ and there beers were delightful.Had their Oatmeal Porter and also sampled their Pint O Joe.Overall very goos and will definately return.thank you Dawn for taking me here. | | Sammy (206), Toronto, Ontario | | June 18, 2008 Both Barley’s locations are a short drive, relatively speaking. The smokehouse has free parking, has the same beers on rotation, is darker lighting, the food is better assuming you like BBQ. Service was slower, I think they were surprised how many people appeared and may have been caught short. But they are competent with knowledge of the basics of their beers. Booths were good for small groups. Music on the loud side. About 12 taps of micros,PLUS 2 CASKS mostly home taps but four good guest taps. Service was efficient. The beers are approachable, the stouts and barleys above average. Hops are rationed, and in the pales and scotch beers (at least 3 at both locations) an orangey like flavoring apparent, which the brewer says is not orange flavouring but was not more forthcoming. Worth a stop if in town.
| | Glouglouburp (142), Montreal, Quebec | | May 16, 2008 Pretty big bug but thanks to the isolated sections you don’t feel like in a large commercial place. Some pool tables and pinball machines. The overall atmosphere of this place is that of a countryside restaurant brewpub. Rednecks will feel right at home in this resto-pub. The beer menu is more extensive at this location but I much preferred the other Barley’s location (AleHouse #1) to spend some time. This is a eat-drink-leave place. When I was they had 7 of their beers on tap (including one cask), 7 guest beers on tap (entry level beers from Bell’s, Founders, etc.) and 3 classic hoppy American beers. | | crizay (103), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio | | December 6, 2007 This place rocked very southern looking inside with old wood floors and just a country bbq style feel to it. The beer was very good although they had about 7 on with 6 or so guest taps it definitely beat what #1 had on hands down. The 2 IPA’s were great as was the imperial stout and cherry porter. The food here is straight up southern bbq a completely different menu from #1 and I loved it. Went on a Sunday where service was slow so we had 2 tables to ourselve’s and they put the Browns game on the projection screen along with the sound on the speakers. Stayed for the whole game and some. Just loved this place and would be worth driving 2 hours to again. | | BeerVirgin72 (55), C-Bus, Ohio | | March 2, 2007 Went here for lunch today. First time. LOVED the beer...Food was very tasty and arrived very quickly. No crowd, really...Service was a bit slow, which makes no sense, seeing how they werent busy...When I was leaving though I stopped to get tickets for the Ale Fest and both the hostess and the manager were VERY friendly, so that made up for the server being less then enthusiastic. I would come back simply for the beer, but I prefer the atmosphere at Barley’s #1!! | RIS101 (7), Illinois does not count - explanation | | January 13, 2007 Good food good beer good fun. Stopped there for dinner and was crowded. Plenty of parking. Hostess were organized and efficient and seated us in a timely fashion. On an extra note Mildred’s Sauerkraut Balls with creamy chipotle sauce were worth the trip alone. | | shigadeyo (57), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio | | January 7, 2007 Visited on 11/08/2006... I was at Barleys Smokehouse (Ale House #2) once several years ago, but forgot all about the place until recently. Parking is plentiful and the place is pretty nice inside. However, I found the beers and food to be average - nothing too terribly great or unique. Actually, the food was pretty disappointing. I’ve heard that the Barleys Smokehouse (Ale House #1) is better... | spector (1), Lancaster, Ohio does not count - explanation | | November 13, 2006 Great place for good food and great beers.Very nice selection of house and guest beers.Last time I went they had Two hearted ale,Founders dirty bastard, and DFH 90 min IPA on tap.The food was really good and not over priced.Barleys is really easy to get to and there is plenty of parking | | sliffy (86), Columbus, Ohio | | October 12, 2006 Very nice brew pub, service is usually pretty good, and the range of house brews and guest drafts is great. Usually a cask conditioned beer available as well. And firkin friday’s are great. The food at the smokehouse is quite predictably barbecue inspired. And really is quite good, the beef brisket nachos are a personal favorite. I’ve never seen that place get all that crowded, and there is plenty of parking. | View Page : 1 2
