April 20, 2004 This place shares the plaza where I take martial arts a couple times so I figured I would stop by, not expecting much. I was not let down. Nestled in the cranny of a strip mall and surrounded by a martial arts studio, a workout facility and a health food store, the Backstreet Pub and Dairy Queen are the only refuge for someone not wanting to feel healthy. Parking here is never a problem either.
The windows are heavily tinted so you will have no idea what to expect going on other than the faint glare the TVs give off through the windows. Inside was not as seedy as I was expecting. There are a few pool tables to the left, some bar seating to the right, and a patio in the back. The bar takes up the middle area. There are plenty of TVs to watch whether you are playing pool or drinking.
The beer selection is simply pathetic. 2 lonely taps were all I could find, and the bottle selection rattled off to me offered nothing to the discerning beer drinker.
The one thing going for Backstreet Pub is that it is a neighborhood bar. You are going to have to travel at least a couple miles either north (Winking Lizard, Crown Sports Lounge) or south (Flanagan’s, Donnerick’s) to find another bar.
Backstreet does not have food but they don’t mind you bringing your own in. |
