| HopHunter (10), Oklahoma | | September 18, 2009 great place to go for a beer in bricktown. | | eaglefan538 (90), Wilmington, Delaware | | January 18, 2008 I believe most of the beer here was 3.2pct or lower. Even if it wasn’t, this beer was the worst, nothing close to fully attenuated product, astringency party masked by sugary leftover malts, and a bar tender that was annoying as all get out (and drunk). Did not have the food, but based on the beer, I didn’t want any. Too bad we commited to the growler before drinking a glass, because what was leftover and taken home never got consumed. | LAGERthanLIFE (2), Stillwater, Oklahoma does not count - explanation | | June 30, 2007 I had not stepped inside The Bricktown Brewery in years because of the awful beer. I seek out brewpubs everywhere I travel; to avoid one in my own state is unusual. In fact, my recommendation to out of state beer seekers is, "Any of the brewpubs except Bricktown."
This week, however, my company hosted an end of quarter event at The Bricktown Brewery. Out of principle I ordered the Light Amber hoping to be proved wrong. I couln’t finish the pint. There are so many flaws with the beer I do not know where to begin. Flat, lifeless, sour, overload of diacetyl, tastes of Lemon Pledge. To add insult to injury, my coworker ordered the dark ale (brown ale or stout, I’m not sure). It was served to him in a frosted glass!
Advertisements for The Bricktown Brewery included nightly drink specials, military discounts, ladies night, live music, theme nights hosted by local radio stations, etc. The only mention of craft beer is found in the restaurant’s name.
I do not recommend any of craft beers at The Bricktown Brewery. I am embarrassed to think that visitors to Oklahoma City are more likely to visit The Bricktown Brewery rather than any other brewpub in the city. The restaurant’s location seems to be the only thing it has going for it.
| | Dansting (114), Overland Park, Kansas | | June 29, 2007 Visited on a Monday afternoon before a Hornets game. Nice place. Beers were okay, but nothing was spectacular. Beer prices were fantastic: $1.50 for a draw and $1.50 for a sampler. The only thing that was disturbing was the fact that there were birds flying around inside the area with the brew kettles and fermentation tanks. I imagine this is a pretty fun place to hang out on a weeknight. | | SlothFroth (13), Katy, Texas | | June 23, 2007 So there was a scene in "A Bug’s Life" where the one fly is warned to look away from the bug light and he says as he flies to his death "I caaaannn’t help it". That’s kind of how I was when stopping in Bricktown and this place was within walking distance of my hotel. I didn’t end up much better than the fly. They had 5 beers on tap, I tried the sampler. The copperhead was a light amber, it was infected and horrible. The wheat was a bit light in body and flavor but reasonably clean. The pilsner was a seasonal that was actually pretty decent, a touch high on the alcohol but a decent lager. The brown ale was another seasonal that was bitter due to astringency, lacked the darker malt characters and had no sweetness to balance the bitterness. The Black Gold was described as "a porter or stout, but there’s not much difference between the two." It was very light, infected, and just plain bad. Service was good and attentive. The chicken quesedilla was decent and my kid really liked the chocolate cake. | | troyc (72), Lubbock, Texas | | April 5, 2007 Well, I didn’t expect much from this place when I went in to try it out, but I think even less of it now. Only four of their beers were on tap, and as I looked around I saw almost everyone in the place drinking BMCs. I should have figured it out right there. But no, as a true beer connoisseur, I decided to give the sampler a go. The beers were just plain bad, with too much water and too little ingredients. The burger I had there was decent, but there are not too many ways you could screw up a burger. Prices were not too steep, and I think the beer sampler only cost about $1.50, which was more than reasonable. Definitely an older crowd, in which I did not fit in at all. | | mattcoats (18), Norman, Oklahoma | | April 3, 2007 A sorry excuse for a brewpub. Other than their own terrible beers, they only stocked american macro-brews, but believe me, after having a sampler of the beers they brewed there, a Coors Light was tasting really good. | tikimann (4), Stillwater, Oklahoma does not count - explanation | | July 19, 2006 I did not care for the beer, or the service. I am 27, and I felt too young to be in there. Like a kid at Grandma’s house, I was afraid to touch anything. | | jetzler (11), oklahoma city , Oklahoma | | April 5, 2006 Nothing special about the place, greasy pub food, lack luster beers. It would be a definate dissapointment to any actual fan of beer or vistor to OKC. But hey its what weve got. | | jzzbassman (16), New Albany, Mississippi | | November 21, 2005 This deserves the low rating because it could be so much better. All they need is a brewer who knows their ass from a hole in the ground. Cool location, decent food, infected beers.
I’ve been 6 times and the beer is horrid. It really pisses me off because it just solidifies Oklahoma as a beer desert when out of towners try this place. God help beer noobs who drink here; you’ll never convince them to try anything other than BMC. |
