| KyotoLefty (81), Kyoto, Japan | | September 21, 2008 Great beer selection in top condition. Every time I visited in August ’08 (about 4 times) There were always different draught beers on the list. Their choices were generally ver good. The bottle menu is amazing, though it will cost you. Food is good but I found it very pricey. Local cheese board was grat, though. Monday night is $5 pint nightI recommend it. | | Beershine (75), Miami Beach, Florida | | September 18, 2008 Impressive beer bar, quality selection includes local focus on draught, cask ales, and hard-to-find bottles. Knowledgeable staff and friendly owner. Pleasant outdoor patio and cozy inside. Good food. House-cured olives. Excellent grilled calamari. By far the best beer bar in Toronto. | | kmweaver (67), Takoma Park, Maryland | | September 15, 2008 My wife and I had all of thirty minutes to spend here before they closed on a Sunday evening, and I thought about staying in town an extra night just to go back. Great, chill bar on Yonge St. with tons of beer-related decor, friendly lighting, English pub touches, and the best beer selection in Toronto. We went to Beer Bistro first, and left without ordering anything. Here, we could subsist for weeks. Tons of local Canadian beers represented on tap and in bottles (Church Key, Grand River, Denisons, etc.). Long bottle menu with lots of vintage beers available, plus tons of excellent taps. A must-see beer destination in Toronto. | | Rastacouere (408), Montréal, Quebec | | August 28, 2008 As it’s been said, this place has to be made your number 1 priority when visiting Toronto. Efficient, friendly and quick service accompanies a classy outfit with a large and pleasant terrace. I don’t expect to find a better beer place in Ontario. Every beer tried was in pristine condition and the bottle selection, while not as large as Smokeless, is much more impressive with the likes of HOTD being represented. The food is above average Italian cuisine with a certain personality, though perhaps a bit expensive considering the small servings. | PaulHegedus (8), Brampton, Ontario does not count | | August 26, 2008 [ Updated September 20, 2008 ] Volo Cafe is the best beer bar in Toronto, and the best I’ve visited in Ontario. I try to visit as regularly as I can. Like most locations, visiting in the afternoon is best as it is less busy and there is time to talk to the knowledgeable and attentive staff. Order a cheese board cheese is their specialty as much as beer, and few foods pair better! Special events here, Cask days are a must. Draught and bottles rotate frequently. The patio is comfortable in summer and the bar is a warm and toasty visit in winter weather. Denison’s Weiss tastes wonderful here, and bottle selection includes excellent US and Belgian brews. Service here is the key: the best I’ve encountered, with fantastic beer selection to boot! | | robinvboyer (19), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario | | August 4, 2008 Great bottle selection, and a wonderful tap selection of almost all Ontario micros. Nice little patio, and the food is quite good. The only problem i have with Cafe Volo is the service. I find that it’s often a little lacking, when i 1st started going the servers knew ALOT about beer, now I find their knowledge lacking. | | austinpowers (151), New York, New York | | May 5, 2008 Terrific place! Somewhat swank and clean. Much like a wine bar, just with about 100 beers or so. The beer list lists brewer, abv, city and state as well as style of beer. Very comprehensive tasting notes, too. Service was attentive and cared about the beer, though they shouldn’t have given me a hard time about the green apple beer (if it’s so bad, don’t put it on the menu). They shouldn’t presume to know what I’d like since they don’t know me. Food was pretty good, too. All in all, this was top notch. | Imperial-John (4), Mississauga, Ontario does not count | | March 16, 2008 [ Updated April 20, 2008 ] A cozy place, good for people watching near the big windows on Yonge Street. Service was much better than on my last trip and the owner, Ralph is always around to chat with the customers. The main reason you go to Volo is to try beers you can’t get anywhere else in Toronto. The Italian style food is very good. | yarry (2), Waterdown, Ontario does not count | | February 4, 2008 [ Updated February 6, 2008 ] The place itself was very beautiful although it would benefit with more street visablity. Service was both good and overworked. He was full of great stories and was able to converse with us as well as all patrons readily. He was occasionally swamped and unable to get to us sometimes, this I now understand. The beer selection is great, and I imagine that EVERYONE will find a beer or two theyve never had there. Food was delicious though the pizza was a somewhat smaller portion then I had anticipated. Overall however Volo was very good, the beers were amazing, the food was very good (although maybe not the best fit for a beer place such as this)
To sum it up however, I will be back, and hopefully soon. (Cheers Lawrence -) ) | View Page : 1 2 3 4 5
