RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
This brewpub is located on the north end of trendy NW 23rd in downtown Portland. They brew about 8 of their own beers, which change with the season and have several guest taps of local brews. The environment is full of locals and very casual. There is a sweet beer garden in the back that is great for chilin’. The staff is friendly and serves up some pretty good eats. The menu has everything from buffalo wings, spinach and artichoke dip to vegetarian. Of course vegetarian, it is Portland. Not really kid friendly nor dog friendly. There is a non-smoking section until about 8pm then it is all smoking. There are a few video games, pinball and video poker.

| Ungstrup (209), Frederiksberg, Denmark | | June 24, 2008 We had dinner here - seemed more like a restaurant than a brewpub. The food was good, and the service friendly. They had 10 different of their own beers on when I visited. I will return, if I go back to Portland. | | Feinschmecker (29), Seattle, Washington | | March 30, 2008 I came here to sample everything they had and I did. The brewpub comes across as local hangout where you might head for a decent after work beer. Their selection I believe is better than average and this place is one of the best to sample the local variety. | | BeerZack (11), Austin, Texas | | March 24, 2008 Small and homey cafe feel in this cozy shack. We were here pretty early, so it was quiet and the bartender seemed to be the only server on. The food was good and so was the price. The beer was very good also. The Munich dunkel they had was a nice change from the ordinary, bigger and richer flavors that was one of the stand outs. The C-Note IPA (100 IBUs from a bunch of C-hops, Centennial, Cascade, etc.) was okay. Several house styles to choose from and two seasonal while we were there. Would recommend. | | bhensonb (244), Woodland, California | | December 20, 2007 Small and funky. Cheap parking a block away. Good service. Good conversation about the beers. | | NickVega (28), Eugene, Oregon | | August 17, 2007 Nice place, nice patio. Great to chill out and enjoy a fresh pint. Good local place. | | boFNjackson (29), Portland, Oregon | | March 9, 2007 Went here on my birthday night, I read about it on an Oregon Beer site. Bartender was really friendly. They had a good selection of their own brews as well as a few guess taps. A nice brewpub look inside, a little noisy but it was crowded. I’ll have to go sit in the patio next time I’m there. | | unclemattie (90), Georgia | | August 14, 2006 Nice old London Pub feel with a German Beir Garten in the back. Good music. Service was below par, took her a while to help us. The patio closes early cause of a neighborhood ordince or something. The allow (encourage) smoking, exept cigars. The told us to but it out of leave... every table had cigarettes, go figure. We left. | | Oakes (323), Miami Beach, Florida | | August 13, 2006 Wasn’t that excited about the beers here. The service was pretty good, however. The water glasses were filthy. The back patio is pretty relaxing but the front room is a little on the grungy side, maybe not some place I’d actually want to be in the winter. | | DYCSoccer17 (171), Davis, California | | June 10, 2006 Located on 23rd, I visited this place on an early Saturday evening. Very small, smokey place inside with rather limited bar seating. There are some vintage beer paraphenalia on the walls. If you go straight back, it will bring you to a back patio that is partially covered with some picnic tables as seating. I sat myself and it took about 15 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge me. I asked for some menus, which took literally another 15 minutes. Once I ordered my 3 8oz samples and food, it took yet another 15 minutes to receive the beer. So basically I sat there for 45 minutes beerless. The food came shortly after the beers. I ordered a turkey sandwich, which had some sort of black currant jelly on it. The currant jelly was a bit overpowering and messy IMO. The 3 beers were overhopped to great extremes. All in all, I did not have a good experience with this place and won’t return. | | CaptKirk (21), Hephzibah, Georgia | | September 25, 2005 The outside patio is worth going alone! More people outside then in. The beer selection is ok. Their stout is one of the best that I have had and will definitely try it again. This place was close to my hotel and made it an easy decision to go there. The atmosphere is warm and friendly with the locals. | View Page : 1 2
