I’ve been using this place for the best part of 14-15 years now and it never ceases to surprise me. All of the German beers are £1.89 a bottle regardless of strength and everytime I go in there I pick up a new German beer, but with Ayinger Celebrator Dopplebock, Augistiner Maximator and Schenider Aventinus all to be found here quite regularly its heaven if you just want to re-visit some old favourites. They have a decent selection of other world beers and this is the place to go if you want to unearth that Belarus, Ukraine, or Peruvian beer that you want to add to your list of countries beers to tick off. The UK selection is fine enough and lately has featured a wide selection from the following breweries amongst others Glastonbury, Wissey Valley, Naylors, but there are gems like Thornbridge Halcyon to be found. If I have one criticism is that in comparison to the German beers many of the UK beers seem a little steep and they unlike the German beers appear to be priced with an eye on strenght, even so by most standards thay’re quite reasonable. I suppose the real bread and butter for this shop is the out of date beers which the students and others buy by the case. Its well worth popping in the owner whose name I’ve momentarily forgotten but have known for many years as I used to live just three-four doors away is a lovely chap his sister runs the nearby newsagent Amit and Ajay. For a decent selection of beers at superb prices by Oxford standards the Dodgi Deli as it is affectionately known simply because it sells quite a lot of out of date or close to sell by date beer btw (it used to do food years ago, but no longer does) anyway its well worth stopping by and stocking up. To the best of my knowledge only ever frequented by myself and Doppleganger (Casey) from this site, would love some others to find this place. Oh and one last thing it now has a listing in the Good Bottled Beer Guide the owner told me last week.
