On the way back from Capone’s myself and fellow Knight AFI96 stopped at Stoudt’s for a brew. We walked into the Oktoberfest hall / Beer garden, there was a small party going on there so we were escorted into the old fashion pub. The bar was full, but we did find a seat ordered our dunkelweizen and we were on our way. The staff was pretty friendly, nice old decor, and good food. Also there is a cool little German village right outside of the brewery. However, i must tell you something very funny. As we were leaving someone approached the car and asked if we wanted to come in and crash a baby shower........lol. I think this look-alike tranny was hitting on my friend. :)

stopped by on beer tour, 08/17/08. Had a fat dog imperial stout, then tried a sampler. Fat dog was excellent, all the other 6 beers were well made. Took brewery tour hosted by Ed Stoudt, but it was OK in spite of that. Did not eat there (except pretzels), friendly staff and patrons, nice decor, would visit again.

Went to this place for a beer festival in August, ’06. Set up a la Oktoberfest in Germany, lots of tables, brats, sauerkraut, etc. People were friendly enough, good beer selection, bread was pretty killer. The outside area is great for bands and beer under tents. Great fun.

Love the old world-German theme of Stoudts Brewery and restaurant. I was visiting here since I was in my teens going to the beer festivals with my family even before they started the brewing side of it as I remember. Good food, beer selection is great and just so fresh straight from the brewery. The bread baked fresh at the brewery is awesome! Service can be tedious, we have experienced lousy service here several times due to one thing or another. If your visiting the area it’s worth a stop, antique shopping everywhere.

First the good, this is a really beautiful dining room. Red and gold painted tin ceiling. Lots of nice stained glass, cut mirrors, and a stunning restored car out in the entryway. The food is great, slightly upscale German pub fare, most of it including beer and it was deemed one of the favourite meals ever of my parents-in-law, neither of whom are beer drinkers at all. Now the bad... terrible service. Really, terrible. We got there on a busy day (mother’s day) so perhaps some confusion was inevitable, but rather than actually talk to us, they just ran around avoiding our eyecontact and our questions. I can’t say that I wouldn’t go back, but the people here need to learn how to treat people. Very unprofessional, IMO.

Overall, I enjoyed Stoudt’s, but it was nothing to write home about. There are two parts of the restaurant, one is more of a bar food type joint, the other is really fancy, pricey. We sat in the bar food section. The food was pretty good, the wings are good and the prices were not outrageous in this part of the restarurant. The other side is prime rib and is really expensive. They have a solid lineup of beers that are all good. This place is a little gem in this area. Never got to check out the rest of the complex. I would definately go back.

Nice place, good service, and they were willing to sell us some beer memorabilia that wasn’t necessarily for sale. For PA and away from the ocean, they had an odd selection of shellfish on the menu (this was June ’07ish.) Good selection of beer and had a nice bar-type area as well. We were actually on a brewery tour, got caught in a traffic jam on the PA Turnpike and found this place by accident. Great placewish there was something like that where I lived.

One of my favorite places to eat, excellent German fare in addition to the Steakhouse menu. I always try to eat in the small room to the left and slightly behind the bar. It’s more relaxed and casual there, and you’re surrounded by hundreds of Reading area breweriana pieces. Usually more than 6 beers on tap and the occasional limited bottles available for purchase. The service has always been decent and friendly. Get the German sampler platter, their red cabbage kraut is awesome! About a 20 minute drive from the shopping outlets in Reading, just tell the wife you’ll take her shopping if you can pick the restaraunt for dinner.

Let me qualify this by saying that I am not a steak connoisseur, but I do know what I like, and Stoudts makes the best steak I’ve ever had (I’ve been to Capital Grille and Ruth Chris...if that helps). The food is EXCELLENT, albeit a bit over-priced. The atmosphere is upscale and more formal. The beer is really quite good. I think their Tripe is one of them most under-rated beers of that style, and, of course, Fat Dog is always great.

Stopped here for some beers and the tour. Have been restaraunt before and enjoyed the food as well. But the tour, you have to try to get out to Stoudts for the tour if you live in the area. They don’t give you any free beer, but Ed Stoudt is quite a character and makes for a very lively tour. He encouraged us throughout the tour to buy American beer, gave us a history lesson on corn in beer, let us know that 4 to 5 beers a day is pretty much moderation and good for us. Good time.
