| Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | September 23, 2009 Very large beer store. You walk around with a cart and circle piles of nicely displayed cases. Good selection, as good as I have seen in Pennsylvania. But doesn’t rival in numbers the selection you can find in surrounding states like NJ. Pennsylvania is not the greatest east-cost state to shop for beer but this store does have a very good selection of American and import (mostly Belgian). IMPORTANT NOTE: Me stupid Montrealer didn’t know about stupid PA law. YOU CAN ONLY BUY CASES at this store. I bought a case of Expedition and was on my way. I must say I was mostly impressed by the prices. They only sell by the case but the prices are good. | upinya (1), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | September 2, 2009 Great selection, but if your buying by the keg pay close attention to the expiration date. They tried to sell me a three year old keg once, but when brought to their attention replaced it with a new one no questions asked. | | Beardface (35), Eugene, Oregon | | October 23, 2008 Dr. Beardface and his bff Fruchter ditched the lousy Jew Webz and took off for Pennsylvania to fulfill the left coaster’s extreme desire for Bell’s beers...they were not disappointed. After trekking up the silly hill to the front door, the bffs were blown away by the massive selection. Their first thought: what the fuck is up with all these random macrobrews? These walls may contain the world’s largest selection of ice beers, but that is no crime because of the presence of the world’s greatest brew: Beer30 Ice! Sadly for those hoping to hear more of this legendary beer, we had bigger fish to fry. After much deliberation upon the Bells beers, it was decided that a variety pack was in order since Fruchter’s roommate Shaun had some Two Hearted back at the homestead. An added bonus was that a case of Siberian Night was also able to be procured, another beer that I had a jack bauer for. Truly an amazing store, and I will sure to visit again on my next trip back east. | rocstedy (2), , Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | August 21, 2008 Selection is great. Staff is terrible. One of the counter girls is usually alright. The other one is annoyed by anyone who wants to purchase beer.
One of the owners ,who I unfortunately met today, is a very arrogant and rude man. Two weeks ago I inquired about a possible donation to a charity golf tournament that I am organizing. I never got a call back so today I stopped in to ask again. The owner, who was very annoyed that I was bothering him for 30 seconds, told me that since he had never seen me before then that meant I wasn’t a customer, which meant he wasn’t going to donate. I have been shopping there for years, but will never support the place again. Tanczo’s will be getting all of my business from now on. They might not have as many overpriced imports, but they have a staff that treats customers with respect. | Edwah (1), , Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | August 21, 2008 Shangys is what it says it is Beer Heaven
I have been shopping here for more then 20 years the staff has always been super helpful, knowledgeable and personable.
Sometimes making recommendations and the occasional free beer glass. They are a soup to nuts beer distributor. And have something for every taste and budget.
I give these guys an A+. Well worth a visit! | stoutofheart (1), South Plainfield, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | August 15, 2008 Started out great. Good selection of stuff I couldn’t get in Jersey. The service in this place was pretty awful. The girl behind the counter seemed annoyed at my friend’s and mine enthusiasm, and seemed inconvenienced every time we asked for a price on a case that wasn’t marked. We picked up some pretty good stuff, except for one case. The only time an employee threw in their 2 cents was to sell us a case of Pizza Port Hop 15, which he was very adamant about us buying. When we returned to NJ and opened the Hop 15 the whole case was bad. Hugh chunks of protein completely clouded the beer and it tasted awful. Now we have 11 bottles that we can’t give away. Overall not a bad trip, but a trip I may not make again for there are other good places in PA to buy good beer. | jlf278 (9), Hoboken, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | March 23, 2008 Stumbled on this place by chance on a tript to Bear Creek Mountain. Walking in, I saw neatly spaced piles of six or so cases of many many beers from all over the US and abroad. About 1/4 of the beers had helpful displays noting price, description and a short review by Shangys. The employees were friendly and helpful. The only problem is that, being Pennsylvania and all, you had to buy everything by the case, even 12 packs, you had to to buy two of. However, the prices were quite reasonable. For example $31/case of bell’s, southern tier or left hand variety cases. I was in a hurry so I didn’t get to check out the store thoroughly, but I was impressed and will definitely stop back if i’m anywhere in the vicinity. | | yobdoog (92), Woodridge NY, New York | | February 6, 2008 Before YEHA Madness a bunch of us met up here to do a little case splitting. Thats the new addiction. Everyone is doing it, we just can’t stop. Wall to wall cases in the massive store. Great selection, they carry everything from Lost Abbey, to Bells, to Southern Tier. They also have a really great glassware section and a room of hot sauces. I actually needed a new glass and had no trouble finding a nice one. They also had some Bells mini kegs and a bunch of Magnums and Jeraboams of Samichlaus and other stuff too. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The only drawback is its in PA and you must buy the whole case. Thats why there are som many bums hanging out outside to just a little fix and go in on halfzies. | | biggcb (27), Harleysville, Pennsylvania | | January 17, 2008 Ran over at lunch time since it not too far from my new job. Very impressive place. Amazingly organized. Almost too clean to be a beer distributor. Very nice selection. Lots of glasses and cigars. | | dmac (27), Toms River, New Jersey | | December 16, 2007 Wow what a store. Big, clean, cheap pretty much the way I like my women..minus the big part. Selection from Bud to Bells....Coors to Corsendonk...Miller to well you get the idea. Prices on most items are fantastic. Tons of glassware and even jeraboams and mini kegs. If PA ever passes the bill to sell 6 packs or even singles I will be here every other week. |
