Not a very large place, but not a hole in the wall in either. Has an amazing beer selection....when you can have a top 50 on draft around here, thats special. Food was extremely good as well. The place unfortunately can not absorb sound at all as it was extremely loud the whole time. I plan on being back to try out a few more of their beers,

I really enjoyed this place. It is attached to a Brazalian steakhouse. Some of the items on their menu are available in the Iron Abbey. The food is pretty good, but lets be honest, you come here for the beer. They have a great selection of Belgians on tap as well as in bottles. Our waitress wasn’t completely knowledgeable with all the beers, but got answers to any questions we may have had. Also, its not on the menu, but try a beer flight sampler. Its $9 for 4 of their drafts, and the glasses are about 5oz. for the sampler. The molten chocolate cake was awesome too. We went at 6pm on a Saturday. It wasn’t crowded until we left about 2 hours later. Decor is nice too.

I made my first sortie to the Iron Abbey Thursday. It looks nice enough with its rustic wood and stone facades but the electric candles flickering above the bar give it away as the sort of caricature that it really is. In fact despite the fresh paint and wooden trim it’s really just a sports bar with a Belgian motif. Not to say that it isn’t a pleasant place but if you’re looking for a real Belgian cafe or Gastro Pub, as the Iron Abbey markets itself, then you may want to stick with Monk’s or Teresa’s Next Door. I will say though that the food is fantastic, but that is because you can order food from Na Brasa next door, which I did, as well as traditional Belgian dish. In any case there were only about ten to fifteen beers there I hadn’t had which was somewhat disappointing, nevertheless the selection was good. Although I was annoyed that a Belgian Gastro Pub had Guinness taking up a tap whilst Yeti, and DFH, and Stone were stuck in bottles. They did have Malheur Biere Brut though so I respect that. Anyway, the bartenders seemed to be playing musical chairs with the patrons; always whirling in one direction or another to different clients and on several occasions forgetting who ordered what, charging people twice for the same drink, and overcharging for meals (which happened to me). Also the place is really much too small for the crowd its drawn. Good for them but bad for us. It’s set up like a sports bar with the majority of the seating around the bar and proximal tables abutting the walls. That’s fine except not only is it cramped but its loud, even for a sports bar. You frequently had to negotiate seats and servers to get anywhere. It’s unfortunately cramped in the dining room too. That really detracts from the overall ambiance. Also I really wanted to know why I was being forced to watch tennis on the television above the bar. Again the sports bar was winning out over the Gastro Pub and that’s not what I came for. You couldn’t really have a conversation. And I would not say "every single bartender is EXTREMELY knowledgeable." One bartender was slightly knowledgeable but they were all polite and helpful. Oh well, like I said this place is new and it was a first visit. I know I’ll be back to rate again.

I’ve been to Iron Abbey several times now and it gets better each time. Every single bartender is EXTREMELY knowledgeable with just about every beer. My first time there I had a Youngs Double Chocolate. About half way through my glass one of the bartenders leans over and says that since I like the Youngs, I would really like the Gouden Carolus Classic. I try it next. Boy was he right on the money. If you eat at the bar area try the Original Sin. Order it after 10 PM and it’s $10. That’s $5 less than regular. You better have an empty stomach because this dish will fill you up. It’s Portuguese House Bread Stuffed with Beef, Sausage, Ham and a blend of Cheeses Grilled and topped with a Fried Egg and Beer Gravy. No matter what day of the week you go there is a decent crowd. Weekends, of course, are much more crowded. Now if they only allowed cigars and had live blues and jazz this would be the ultimate bar.

Place opened up about a month ago (Aprril ’09). It is connected to a new Brazilian steakhouse (na Brasa). Had about 20 beers on tap and supposedly over 200 bottles. Some locals on tap (Weyerbacher, DFH, Sly Fox, Stoudts). It was very nice treat drinking St. Bernardus Abt 12 on tap! Very good ambiance. Very impressive selection between drafts and bottles.

Place is designed like a Belgian abbey. Ambient lighting with a castle-ish feel to the place. Visible wooden beams on ceiling. Long, oval granite bar. Great beer selection, great food. Prices for both are very good.
