3 reviews for Brauhaus Schmitz
| jmm635 (33), Havertown, Pennsylvania | | August 14, 2009 Finally, a German brauhaus to replace Ludwigs! Nice atmosphere inside. Very lively crowd, nice decor (beautiful wood tables downstairs). About 20 taps, mostly German, which was really nice because you really can’t find any German beers on tap in Philly. I found the food to be excellent (sausages, schnitzel, various sides)! My only complaint is the service was absolutely horrible. I went a week after opening so I will give this place another chance to improve that score. The waitress was obviously brand new and kept reminding us that she sucked. It was really difficult getting another round of drinks and the food was really slow to come out. We had reservations at 7:00 and upon seating our party we were told we had to be out of the table by 9:00 because there was another reservation. Does this seem rude to anyone else? Way to welcome us to the restaurant. And to make matters worse, after we were seated we didn’t see our waitress for 25 minutes! How are we supposed to be done eating in 2 hours if it takes nearly 30 minutes to get a menu? Oh, they were just about out of those, too. We had to share. I’ll go back for the beer and food, but if the service doesn’t improve that will be my last trip. | | afireinside96 (29), Mountville, Pennsylvania | | August 2, 2009 A very nice, well laid out beer hall right on South St. Well lit and attractively decorated. Of the 20 or so taps 16 were German with a couple American craft taps and a Lindemans Framboise. Prices were decent especially for being on South Street. The bartender was quick and courteous. It was pretty cool having a Leipziger Gose on tap and some of the others were beers seldom seen on draft as well. I’m not much for lagers so this place wouldn’t be a destination for me but I would certainly not be opposed to stopping in again if in the area. | | bp (47), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | July 26, 2009 New German beer bar in Philly. Great location on South Streeet and very nice exterior/interior design. Fairly decent sized place with 20 taps including Schneider Aventinus, Ayinger Celebrator, Aecht Schlenkerla and other great German beers. They also had Leipziger Gose on draft but I don’t think that is something they’ll get with regularity. We only ate appetizers - pretzels, cheese plate - and were happy with the food. Will need to try a regular dish before I can give a fair rating for food. Beer-wise this is the place to stop for German beer on draft in Philly. |
