| gsmitty80 (40), Washington DC | | September 10, 2009 What a find! I was looking to go to the Legacy Brewery to see if they had a tasting room and found that this bar was on top of the brewery. Walked in and was floored with the smell of hops from downstairs. The beer list was admirable with about 50 bottles, 3/4 of which were bottles bigger than 12oz. They had about 12 quality beers on tap with a hint of what they were tapping in the future. If you are a beer drinker and happen to be in Reading (lol), check it out! | | FooFaa (25), Lebanon, Pennsylvania | | April 9, 2008 Basically, this is the tap house for Legacy Brewing (but this is not a Legacy brewpub), but they have a number of other micros on tap, and a decent bottle selection. Their selection isn’t huge, but is quality. I had a Founders Centennial IPA and a Bear Republic Big Black Bear while there. The food was decent. I’ve only ever been there for lunch, so I don’t know how crowded it gets, but I can’t imagine it gets packed. As, the place is huge. The service has always bee good. | | maltdog (51), Knoxville, Tennessee | | October 30, 2007 Glad to see that Canal Street finally has its feet on the ground. Even at a strange hour (3:30 PM), there were a smattering of customers with more filtering in. Old factory building exposed brick, wood, high ceilings, all very tasteful. Spacious yet intimate. An eclectic selection of ten or so superb draft beers (well, I dunno about the resurrected Reading Premium). Surprised that only three of the Legacy beers brewed downstairs were available at the bar. Keg pressures were a bit low- the beers we enjoyed all featured only a cask ale effervescence. Pretty incredible bottled beer selection… whoever is in charge of buying beer knows his or her shit. Not a macro, or a TV (Hooray!) in sight. Although not beer-saavy, the bartender (who described Euphoria, a BSA, as a “triple white”) was very friendly and efficient. All bottles are also available to go. Very nice experience, and probably one of the best beer bars I’ve been to. | Pfluglergirl (1), does not count - explanation | | June 6, 2007 First of all, this place was never "out of business". It got lost and forgotten during Reading’s suburban "boom"! Secondly, It’s Canal St. Restaurant and Pub...Not Legacy Brewing Co. (Legacy just happens to be in the SAME building)!
In the last year, their (Canal St.) tap and bottled selection has improved a million times over! 12 rotating taps and 50+ bottled beers. By far, the best beer selection in downtown Reading!
| | Nejhleader (64), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania | | February 26, 2007 This is a really nice place for being in reading, ha ha. had about 12 taps, but most were good micros from legacy, troegs. They had some band playing when I went, and the atmosphere was pretty good. I didn’t get a chance to try the food. | | biznizness (21), Mooresville, North Carolina | | January 26, 2006 One of my favorite places in Reading, usually because it is empty and the bartenders are cool. It is one of those giant warehouse type buildings turned into a bar, which I enjoy. | | tsarman (23), Northern, New Jersey | | January 17, 2006 Cool looking place serving Legacy, a fine brewery. Decent band there wit a cover. | | obxdude10 (82), Pottstown, Pennsylvania | | March 3, 2004 Great atmosphere, the food is pretty good, above average I'd say, the usual suspects are on tap along with Legacy's brews, they have BMC available either on draft or in bottles, usually have some form of live entertainment on the weekends, pretty decent place
