| CharlesDarwin (144), Point Judith, Rhode Island | | May 21, 2008 This Irish Pub with a kitchen and beer to go wasn’t that bad. They don’t have anything particularly amazing, but for burnt-out Reading they have a good selection of Belgian beers (Rochefort, Orval, etc.), regional micros and others. We were able to buy a couple of mixed single six-packs for a decent price. They had a relatively long list of beers for browsing. Didn’t try the food but it looked pretty standard pub fare. Waitresses were very helpful in tolerating my geekiness in choosing singles. | salzy (1), does not count - explanation | | August 14, 2007 The tastiest Guinness Draught I have found. The staff is rude, but the Guinness is so tasty. MMMMMMmmm Guinness! | | boelker62 (12), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania | | January 23, 2007 The greatest little place in Reading. It’s actually one of the few redeeming attributes in Reading. I used to live there, and plan trips just to go back here, moreson for the food and ambiance. They have a good selection, and the staff is adequately knowledgeable, so you shouldn’t be disappointed. The food, however, is out of this world. I can’t say all the menu items are great, but I strongly suggest any of there seafood specialties. Best seafood you can get in the county. A great stop for an early meal, or a late drink, not a late meal, though. It is a smoky local hangout that gets very crowded. | BATLMULLET (8), Highland, Indiana does not count - explanation | | December 6, 2006 Great old World pub environment. Not a huge selection, but fairly nice. Corsendonk Christmas (Great!), Magic Hat #9 (always intriguing to me for some reason), Troegs Hop Back on hand pump (nice, but served too cold). Food was well prepared and service is right on. Worth a stop if you’re in the area. | IndiaDaleAle (5), Allentown, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | May 16, 2006 The Ugly Oyster has an amazing ambiance. It has the Irish pub atmosphere. The large bar is actually from a pub in Ireland. They have Irish beers on draft, they’re known for Guinness. The food is outstanding, I’ve had the chicken cheesesteak, hot wings, mussels, and the crab dip. Haven’t gone wrong yet. Very convenient before going to a concert or Reading Royals game. | | illinismitty (224), Nashville, Tennessee | | December 11, 2005 If you have to drink beer in Reading, this is the only place worth checking out. Trust me, I have stayed in Reading a dozen times. This a very small, nicely done Irish style pub. Typical imports on draft, with a FEW micros. Small but nice selection in the bottle. They knew the way to my heart by having Bells Two Hearted Ale in the bottle. I had a chicken philly cheesteak, and it was very good. Definitely stop in if you are in Reading. The only place to drink beer that is not a chain or a dump. | | Nejhleader (64), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania | | November 27, 2005 oh my gosh the food here is so good. It makes me wish i lived in reading. Staff was helpful in that they set me up with a meeting with one of the owners of legacy brewing for an interview for a school project I have to do. Good selection of beers also. Not to many micros, but a good number of imports. This place is worth checking out. | | obxdude10 (82), Pottstown, Pennsylvania | | March 5, 2004 Great atmosphere with the pub being one of those 'Authentic' Guinness pubs, the staff is some times very gracious but other times very disappointing, the food is pretty good, the beer selection on draft contains the obvious Guinness, Bass, Harp, and Boddington's along with local micros, huge selection of bottles that span the globe, very close to the Sovereign Center, great place to enjoy a few pints
