| TreborWhip (12), Reading, Pennsylvania | | August 30, 2009 Sampled 5 different ales and had lunch with my wife. Purchased two 750ml bottles to take home. The food was very good, large portions, and the service was outstanding. We got a kick out of how many people came in to have their growlers refilled. I highly recommend a visit and we are looking forward to going to their other brewpub in Phoenixville. Thanks to Ash (Ashley) for taking the time to explain all the different ales and lagers. | | Birdiebeagle (37), Perkasie, Pennsylvania | | June 24, 2009 A real nice brewhouse. The food was good. Had apps which were very tasty. 1/2 price wings and steamers plus nachos. Nachos had cheeze wiz which was the only bummer. The entres were real good and not too high priced. The beer was good. Only drank Sly Fox brews but thats why I was there. Picked up a bottle to go which was cool. The service was good. I took the whole family and they all seemed to enjoy it. | | TomDecapolis (69), Skippack, Pennsylvania | | June 22, 2008 I guess I can consider this my local brewpub. I’m a little closer to the Royersford location than the Phoenixville location. They basically bought what used to be a chain drugstore location in a strip mall and turned it into a restaraunt/brewery. The ambiance is slightly lacking (kind of going for the fox hunting feel). The food is always solid though and the beers are pretty much always very good. Service has always been solid, I’m a fan of the buffalo chicken sandwich. Oh they have a nice gameroom also. My son loves playing the Star Wars pinball. | | Funknmilla (11), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania | | June 19, 2008 [ Updated August 6, 2008 ] Quite a difference from the Phoenixville location....the set-up seems a little fancier, more restaurant-like...Phoenixville has more of a hometown bar feel... Well a disappointment from start to finish....the only good thing was the beer and the game room....once we were seated at our sticky table the server took her time getting to us...it wasn’t extremely busy either...also seemed to be plenty of food runners around, so in theory, the waitress should have more time to attend to customers...not the case here....she came around once after our apps. were finished to ask how things were...and then left the empty plates sitting there....the food was not good...it was wild with salt!....one bite and I felt instantly dehydrated...I guess they think they will sell more beer that way?..no..all it did was make me not want to return here unless it is strictly for beer | | billk (35), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho | | November 17, 2007 [ Updated November 25, 2007 ] Only had 2 IPAs at the bar. Nice large restaurant. The bar is long too. The beer here is decent, not that Iron Hill, beer for the masses, crap. (the bar and surrounding dining area is the smoking section and can get rather smokey)
saison vos was on tap but I had to drive. Will rerturn with a friend and do the restaurant later. This place is worth the trip. Picked up a 6er of Pikeland pils in cans to go.for $7.49. 11/24/07: The Calamari, steamer clams (although a bit small), and fish & chips were all very good. The pretzles were good, except for the cheeze whiz dip. 3 beers on the list we wanted weren’t available so they gave us 2 freebie pints of the rt.113 IPA. This place works for me. | checkmatei1 (9), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | November 7, 2007 I really enjoy going to this restaurant, even though it is a 1 hour hike from home. The staff is always knowledgeable about the beers and quick to offer a sample. If you are going with a group of friends, there is a huge game room in the back. The beer here is some of the best around. The Burns Scottish Ale is my favorite. | | boelker62 (12), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania | | January 23, 2007 I strongly prefer the original brewpub over this one. there is something about the service and the clientele that is a bit more stuffy than the original. I have also met numerous other folks at the original brewpub that agree, and swear off this place. I have sat for twn minutes at this bar, while the bartenders sat back and looked around, and have been ignored. We left. But that’s just one horror stiory. The place is really very nicely outfitted, seating is ample, the bar area is huge, and the flat screen TV’s trump the original pub. The selection is similar to the original, and they have a full liquor license (it’s a Pennsylvania thing) unlike the original. Not that I would allow anyone I am with to get anything other than their beers...The menu is significantly different than the original location to call it much better, but that’s not why you go to the original. It is why you go here. Overall, a good place to go, i just hope they can get their bar area customer service straightened out. | | michael-pollack (71), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | | November 11, 2006 More of a chain restaurant fan then Pheonixville. I prefer the atmosphere at the original locaiton much better. | | treadyroc (14), St. Leonard, Maryland | | August 28, 2006 Had never heard of this place, & was in town for a family function, so I dropped in to check it out. Was genuinely surprised at the selection of beers available for what I’d thought was a small brewery. I’d (mistakenly) mentally equated Sly Fox with one of the smaller brewers, who, if you’re lucky, you’d get a porter, a lager, an ale, & maybe a weiss bier.
Not so... in fact, not at all. A 113 IBU IPA, a tripel, a quadrupel, & even a saison beer were available, albeit in bottles only. Out of their beers on tap, I’d have to say that their Phoenix Ale was the best of the bunch.
Came back the next day w/my dog, & was able to sit outside for the afternoon with him & sample some more beers. They only serve their own beers, nothing else on tap or in bottles, so if you’re looking for a "light" beer, the pub ale’s as light as you’ll get. They also had a very large back room with a full-table shuffleboard, pool & various arcade games. The place even looked like it was outfitted to deal with large parties.
Definitely worth stopping in if you’re in the area or will be passing it on your way to other destinations. | | hopscotch (152), Vero Beach, Florida | | August 20, 2006 More upscale atmosphere than the brewpub. The selection was good, but not great. It would have been great if they had in bottles all the beers posted on their website. The stuff I had was very good. The food was iffy. My chicken salad was very subpar, but my sirloin and garlic potatoes were very good. Service was very good. Bartender was a hottie, but I’ll go ahead and not include that trivial item in my score. ;-) |
