20 reviews for Barley Creek Brewing Company
| Brewman63 (25), , | | November 21, 2009 First let me say that if I’d known this place was within walking distance of the outlet shopping center I would have spent more time here. As it turned out we stopped here on our last day of vacation on a whim only to discover it’s located behind the outlets that we went to earlier in the week. I must not of had my beer-dar turned on that day. Inside it’s a very nice looking cabin-ish styled bar/restaurant. I think they also have a separate deck/pavilion out back. The beer selection is pretty good for a brewpub (light ales, lagers, wheats, IPAs and barley wines). I had the Iron Arm wheat first which was good. It didn’t knock me off my seat but I wouldn’t turn it down either. Then I had the Rescue IPA which was the same; good but nothing to get worked up about. Didn’t have anything else as our group was just stopping for a short time. Had wings and sweet potato fries which were also very good. Would like to have spent more time here. It looks like it could be a fun place to hang out while the significant others are shopping. And they have free tours every day at 12:30. Maybe next time.
| ThatGuySteve (6), New York does not count - explanation | | May 30, 2009 Great place for wings and a brew. Went on the tour at 12:30, it was just my me, my wife and the brewer. Got to try a sampler at the end. Was pleasantly surprised at the Mai Boch and Golden Ale. | | aaaaaaaaaah (14), Warren, Michigan | | February 25, 2009 Saw sign on the highway and had to stop in for a brew. It was midday on Monday and we even got a private tour. Simple brewery set up and friendly tour guide. Beers were alright, only sampled two. | | LaMichael (599), Colorado | | July 28, 2008 Big building stuck on the corner of two busy country roads. Close to I-80 with road signs directing your approach so it’s worth visiting for no other reason than it’s a brewpub in an area with no other options. Big restaurant interior, more waitstaff than is necessary, but most importantly the beer quality is lacking. The IPA and foreign stout are atrocious, and only the pilsner tastes like anything worth paying money for. You know what you’re getting going in, though. | | bigrond (31), factoryville, Pennsylvania | | January 28, 2008 food was just okay, as was the beer. the look of the place ais great and the wait staff very friendly and attentive. I came for the beer and was a little dissapppointed by the selection | Guinness4Duff (7), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida does not count - explanation | | January 24, 2008 Its a nice place, they have a good selection of their own beers which can be hit or miss.
The food is ok, but it is a little overpriced, but this is a tourist spot in the poconos so it is to be expected. | | grandet (13), Scranton, Pennsylvania | | November 24, 2007 Lunch on saturday. Nice looking place on the inside and out. even thought thery were expanding the building. Service was pretty bad, server was quite slow and did not know much about the beer. Food was expensive especially for wings. Food was good though. Beer was pretty good but the sampler is pretty expensive compaired to what I have seen before. Over all it was pretty good. | | hopdog (197), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | June 30, 2007 Stopped by here for lunch on a Thursday. Dinning room got pretty crowded and they seemed under staffed. Lunch took over 1.5 hrs! Had a 10oz’er of ther Barley Wine (which was mediocre) and a sampler. Nice thing about the sampler, is they give you a sampling glass to take home (nice touch). Below average beers and food was OK. | | hophead75 (83), Boonton, New Jersey | | April 21, 2007 [ Updated June 4, 2007 ] nice location in the Poconos. Building seems to be a restored barn, pretty big and airy inside. I had been here before a few years back and really liked their seafood gumbo, which is no longer available. Food was decent but not great. Beers ranged from average to somewhat subpar. If I go again, hopefully they will be better next time. I would say worth a stop only if you are already in the Poconos. Their IPA is drinkable, so go for that one first. | | beerbill (43), Laurel, New York | | May 30, 2006 [ Updated January 20, 2007 ] Updated 1/20/2007: We visit Barley Creek whenever we visit the Poconos. The building is awesome. Huge space with post and beam construction held in place with pegs. Nice deck out back, maybe they can add a sunscreen for the late afternoons. The food over the last 12 months has improved dramatically. My last rating was a 6, now its an 8. The nacho appetizer platters are huge. The shepherds pie, which had undergone an unfavorable recipe change, is back to its former glory. Family friendly + good brews = good time. Note - very crowded on weekends. Expect to wait. |
