RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
Passion-laden lagers and flowery ale perfumes pervade L’Amère à Boire, a must in your Montreal brewpub tour...Dead-on Czech and German lagers often snowball all evening at a lavishly high and stable quality level, to usually end up into a wonderful Imperial Stout/Stilton à la Baltic Porter pairing to complete this first-class voyage to Somnia...And if you’re hungry, their food menu is as complex and welcoming as their beer’s...A 15-minute walk from Metro Berri-Uqam, simply a great place for session beers...There just isn’t any other brewpub like this in NE America (or America?).

| elihapa (15), Connecticut | | October 9, 2008 Went here with my girlfriend about 5 months ago. I remember a cozy environment that was bustling for dinner on a Friday night. Seems like there are a lot of regulars. We had some of their beers and some of their food, both of which were excellent. The salads, appetizers and pizzas here are stellar. As for the beer, I would consider them a bit tame, but nonetheless well crafted and in good variety. I will definitely be back. | | notalush (121), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York | | August 24, 2008 My wife an I made a point to come here after a day of walking around in the summer heat, because we heard they had great lagers and session ales - we were not disappointed - about 10 beers on tap, most of them in the above-mentioned category - the ones we had were quite good - the place itself was set up nicely - lots of smooth, light wooden tables and chairs - clean interior - small patio out on a busy street in the oh-so-hip latin quarter - the service was so-so, as was the food, but it was a good enough place to grab a great beer after a long, thirst-inducing walk. | Murf_Dog (2), Waterford, Michigan does not count | | August 13, 2008 Pretty solid beer offerings with a nice variety available - probably 8 or 10 beers on tap the night I was there. Food selection is pretty basic - appetizers, burgers & pizza.
They have a nice Dunkel Weizen which is rather rare in North America. I felt the Pale could use more hoppiness. The Porter is good & solid. The Stout Imperial is definitely the smoothest & creamiest choco/java stout I have ever tasted. Since they don’t have growlers or six packs (all product must be consumed on-premises) I stayed for a second pint of the exquisite Stout Imperial.
Any (every) time I return to Montreal i’ll also return to L’amere a boire for a pint of the Dunkel Weizen followed by a pint (or two) of the Stout Imperial!
| | robinvboyer (19), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario | | August 7, 2008 AMazing beer, spotty service, the servers often dont see imterested, and they act like you are bothering them to get you some more beer. But man, the beer is so worth it!! The simple best Pils i have ever had! | davewilenius (3), , Ontario does not count | | June 27, 2008 Stopped in here after trying Benelux and I found the beer not nearly as interesting. Perhaps the selection was a bit low (only 3 beers on tap - no cask beers) because I see other reviews list lots of beers they didn’t have. Tried the pale and it was good but not very good. Atmosphere is nice and I love the multi-level arrangement because it gives it a nice small feeling while still having lots of capacity. We sat on the entrance level 2 rows from the window. We’ll have to go back when we can sit on the small patio - that looked nice for a summer evening. | | MikeF (69), Cleveland, Ohio | | May 15, 2008 Loft-ish open atmosphere. Refined, knowledgeable staff. They serve a great selection of Qeubecois style beer. They also offer very nicely acompanying appetizers, cheese and fruit plates etc. Well worth a stop. | Pivoyager (8), Gaithersburg, Maryland does not count | | April 21, 2008 Located in the Latin Quarter, this is my personal favorite when in Montreal. Large and open room with large windows overlooking rue St-Denis makes for a relaxing spot to quaff well crafted micros. | | swoopjones (75), Buffalo, New York | | April 9, 2008 Not much atmosphere here. only had two beers wish ihad looked into their beer before i went. decent hefe & pale. small crowd compared to Vices et Versa 7 dieu du ciel | | Poperinge (98), Cowtown, Alberta | | March 2, 2008 Excellent lagers, great burgers and a great little patio/ | | minibus (19), Gatineau, Quebec | | December 16, 2007 I was in Montreal for a congress and this was my daily stop in the afternoon. A very good selection of lagers, I also enjoyed the Boucanier porter en cask. Vegeterian food was very limited. Very friendly atmosphere and not a bad service. A place to visit if you come to Montréal. | View Page : 1 2 3 4 5 6
