RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
The Wickenden is a tradition in Providence, and maybe more famous than it deserves, but every college town has one of these, so who cares. Small, dark and smoky, it thas the area's largest selection of beers in one place, though quite a few are macros. Expect most Belgians and stronger ales to be served too cold. Closes earlier than most because it doesn't serve food (weird RI law).

Cryotek | Small dark basement feel, like a homemade bar. Unfortunately the best bottle selection of beer in RI and usually about 16 beers on tap. Service was good. Snoby rich college crowd. Not a horrible place, i go in once in a whie for 5-15 minutes just to drink a cold import and then go on my way, if i’m in the neiborhood. 3/9/08 - I’ve been going here more often, have a friend who joined the 100 beer club, after checking your card for all 100 beers, you get your pic on the wall. The bar was established in 1890 but its very disapointing that there is no picture or info about the history. They now have a newer TV, but the place is still tiny. I’m starting to warm up to the place, but the snoby crowd can still annoy me.

| Hippystomper | This place is pretty small with low ceilings and it gets pretty crowded at times. The beer selection is okay, about 100 brews, give or take, mostly in bottles. Not too many interesting beers that I hadn’t tried, considering such a high number. Probably the best selection in providence though... Adequate service, college crowd mostly, and a really gross (if amusing) mens room. I come here once in a while but usually only when friends are meeting me there. Not a place I’d hit too much otherwise, unless maybe I lived down the street.

DYCSoccer17 | Like the description, this place has about 12-15 taps and a "99 beer on the wall list", which has some interesting brews on it. Very dark, very smoky, and very small. The 20oz mugs make this place somewhat unique. Too small and way too dark for me.
