| Nightfall (26), Athens, Greece | | August 21, 2009 [RBESG 2009] and also our host for the Grand tasting. Very friendly service, cheap and good food. LOTS of casks available. Don’t miss it if you are in the area ! | | bierkoning (173), La Tropica, Netherlands | | July 28, 2009 What a fine place to host the RBESG! A wide range of cask ales and decent to good and cheap food. Loved the fresh cheese and onion toasties for less than 2 euro’s. Friendly service. Absolutely worth a visit. | | thewolf (123), Kolding, Denmark | | July 28, 2009 [ Updated August 2, 2009 ] A big place with lots of cask beers. Very homely, but also a bit dark, perhaps. Very friendly staff, who knows a little about the beer, they are serving. Perhaps there are just a tad too many casks, as some of them did taste a bit old. Food was acceptable for English standards. Price was good. | | Borresteijn (55), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | July 23, 2009 More or less our host for the RBESG 09. Lots of carpets and wood, giving this an at home feel. Lots of choice for the beers, nice pub grub, comfortable seatings indeed. And all at a very cheap price. Only downside was the poppy music that didn’t fit the scenery. | | haddonsman (56), Derby, England | | December 23, 2008 Tucked away from the meat rack, this is a classic pub. A row of handpumps for beers of increasing strength. Plenty of copiously filled cobs at lunchtime. Engaging staff. Comfortable seating. Gorgeous Alsatian lounging around the doorway. Not too sure where Silk was looking, the atmosphere isnt painted on the walls but with the topers you share a beer and a laugh with. The only problem is forcing yourself out for the Cat, KIT and Cutler, all within ten minutes walk. | | SilkTork (58), Rochester, England | | August 7, 2008 Old fashioned coach party type of pub. Mildly amusing in a twee retro manner. 10 different cask ale compensate - almost - for the lack of atmosphere or self-awareness. This is like the lounge bar of an old people’s home. Or one of those hotels used for cheap holidays. It’s all the bad jokes about Northern Working Men’s Clubs. Check to see if there’s a pair of false teeth in your beer before you drink it!
There’s some of the board games you’ll find in a Blackpool guest house.
This is just off Kelham Island, but shares their situation of being poorly located. | | evilempire (14), sheffield, England | | March 7, 2008 [ Updated April 16, 2009 ] best beer range in Sheffield, 11 ever-changing guest beers along with two regulars. Cellar runs on Saturday lunchtimes, two annual beer festivals. Proper pub grub, though only weekday lunchtimes at present - filling sandwiches at other times. only thing wrong with it is lack of cats! | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | August 26, 2007 An excellent first stop in Derby, this authentic, welcoming pub by the river, in a neighborhood that was quite damaged by the floods would be one of the best pubs in most other cities. Here, it’s a welcoming place, totally worthy of the detour, but you won’t want to spend much time if you only have a day. | | Gazza (136), Worcester, England | | May 6, 2007 Previously called the Manchester Hotel, this pub will be easy to walk to from the Fat Cat once the new road has been finished! It’s a roadside pub serving up to eight beers, mainly from Yorkshire, with some surprises. Worth a look-in if you have time. |
