Located in the heart of the busy/touristy part of Portsmouth. A pleasant atmosphere. Big windows, well lit, lots of wood and bricks, nice large bar. The section around the bar has a pub atmosphere and the sections farther from the bar have a restaurant atmosphere. So this place it appropriate for a family meal or for a night of drinking. Medium size, sits a little over 100 with an additional 20 on the small patio. Nice little gift shop connected to the pub. When I was there the crowd was just about anybody, families, elderly people, hometown bums, 21 year old kids. The had seven home brews on tap and 4 or 5 guess beers. Portsmouth beer quality usually ranges for decent to very good, no turkeys here. A full meal ranges from $8 to $25 and you get what you pay for. The burger is a burger and the more elaborate plate is a nice more elaborate plate. This place is worth a detour. If you are in transit between Boston/NYC and Portland you owe it to yourself to stop at Portsmouth Brewery.

Surprising big and active family restaurant with moderately long bar, and a party going on. I was not there 20 minutes when three people started interesting conversations with me. My wife arrived and people were friendly to her. Bartender was like an M.c. and on top of everything. Oh, and outstanding beer being served, with knowledge of it by staff. Brightly lit, and a nice part of town. An East Coast version of the Pizza Port, and that is a complement. Mostly 30-55 crowd. Only quibble: No superstar seasonal on.

Nice brewpub in downtown. The beers were pretty good and so was the food. Knowledgeable waitress and bartenders, but seemed a bit understaffed at times. They also sell Smuttynose beers on draft.

Great microbrewery in a great building in Portsmouth. I tried the sampler and appetiser menu. The food was delicious, followed by some great beer. Staff were friendly, the place was clean. Good stop.

Stopped for dinner... had the "paddle" sampler of the beers for the night. Food was quite good as was the beer... Scotch Ale was the best that night. Bar area is small, but the service was good in spite of busy they were... we only waited 20 minutes on a Friday night. Worth the trip...

20080729 Affordable place for both beer and food. Somewhat small bar area is a bit cramped but the beer and service were good. Food coming out looked fresh and solid. I had chili/salad combo which was fine though nothing exciting. The beers are decent top to bottom. Limited selection of bombers in the gift shop.

beer tour, 09/22/08. Nice brewpub located in downtown Portsmouth, NH. Parking located practically next door (like maybe 50 feet away). Hostess directed us to booth quickly, although they were very busy. Waitress stopped by and left menus and took drink orders. I ordered the beer sampler, which was comprised of 7 house brews and 3 Smuttynose brews as well (apparently they are affiliated). All beers were pretty good, especially liked the Kolsch and the Bottle Rocket IPA, which was very hoppy without being absurdly bitter. Food was good as well, I ordered chili, which came with sour cream, jalapenos and tortillas and was spicy but not over the top. Price was reasonable, food and beer were good, highly reccomend.

MMMMMM.... Had Kate the Great on Tap here today... Excellent atmosphere- lively and quite inviting. Bartenders are quite amiable and LaPanza lounge is a great place to hang out and quaff the brewery’s tastey brews. Company store also attached in case you want some merch...

Nice place, wooden and stylish. Wide variety of brews on tap, though I managed to miss all the really special ones. No Kate the Great for me. Grumble. The best brew was the American Mild that I got a bomber of from the gift shop. The food was interesting, but didn’t blow my mind. At least they gave it a go. Will return next time I’m driving by.
