| savnac (57), Palmer, Alaska | | October 7, 2009 Nice, clean place right on the river with a big deck that was great on hot sunny day that we were there. Service was great, very prompt without being annoying. They had a great selection of beer on tap and a good menu. We were there during happy hour and the prices were great for both the beer and food. Food was pretty good, typical pub style food but not too greasy. Overall a great place and would definitely stop there again if in the area. | | dnstone (18), Mons, Belgium | | April 16, 2009 I found Iron Hill suprisingly good. I was not expecting such good beer and food from a "chain" restaurant. The beer is just as important as the food, which is a cut above what you would expect from a pub. The building is wonderfully restored and the interior ambiance is classy. For brewery it is definately on the high end and the price reflects, but I have to say I was pleased with the entire experience. | | miketd (36), Cleveland, Ohio | | March 2, 2009 I was here for the Lambic release. Located in what seems a quiet part of town...a bit hard to find. Very spacious inside this place with nice atmosphere. Helpful staff, but the bartender was pretty overwhelmed most times. When the keg of BA Old Tom kicked, he gave us 3/4 of a pitcher gratis. Very cool. Food was good but it’s a bit pricey for beer and food here. | | LilBeerDoctor (29), East Setauket, New York | | January 11, 2009 Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon Atmosphere: This is a large brewpub...lots of tables and decent bar space too. Nice and roomy. We arrived soon after the pub opened so it was pretty empty. Quality: Of the beers I tried, most were very good with just a couple that I did not enjoy. On the whole though, this is a quality brewpub. Service: Excellent service, although there weren’t many competing customers for our waiter. Selection: They have 5 house beers and 4 rotating beers. An interesting assortment of beers. Food: The food was quite good. I had the chicken pot pie, which was one of the best pot pies I’ve ever had. It was luscious. Value: I can’t quite remember the prices, but I think they were reasonable. Except for the to-go bottles. The cheapest one was $16.50 (for a rauchbier that was bottled at least a year ago), with most running around $20 and the lambics for $24.50. Overall: I enjoyed the peacefullness of my visit here and the beers were good too. Definitely try to stop here if you can. | | CharlesDarwin (144), Point Judith, Rhode Island | | December 22, 2008 Wasnt particularly impressed. Rolled in here late one August evening, looking for some stellar beer and were met with some mediocre beers, some overdone decor, and high prices. The waitstaff had no idea what they were talking about when we asked some questions about the beer. Somehow, just not an enjoyable event. I felt ripped off when I left. Watered-down beer, high prices and overwrought food. Trying to be too intense, trip and trendy. | | Aurelius (90), Tallahassee, Florida | | December 20, 2008 Hmm, there are pros and cons here. The pros are that it is easily accessible from I-95 - so, if you are driving the pike from Philly to Baltimore or DC then it is worth the stop. The parking is good. The restaurant is clean. The food is good, but perhaps pretentious. There are about 9 brews on tap. The service was good and the waitstaff is knowledgable about the beer (within their recitation/training). The big con, however, is that the beer is generally artless. I have seldom seen so much good brewing equipment put to such fruitless usage. | | mkobes (49), paramus, New Jersey | | September 15, 2008 Sat at the bar had an amazing Vanilla Porter. The bartender was prompt and really explained all the beers well. We didn’t eat there just got the sampler. All the beers were solid. Very clean inside. Friendly atmostsphere. Nice place. | | GMCC2181 (21), Bear/Elkton, Delaware | | February 26, 2008 I only sat at the bar, but every thing looked nice. Bartender and staff were friendly and prompt. Good amount of beers available, and they have 8 or so bottles to go. Growlers as well. Nice place to check out, right of 95, so it is easy to get to. | | MartinT (348), Montreal, Quebec | | January 14, 2008 This slightly upscale restaurant is one of those rare establishments which manages to match fine dining with fine brewing. My pan-seared scallops in Chardonnay sauce were absolutely delicious and my wife’s smoked duck salad was equally exquisite. The seafood bisque and the cream of chanterelle were both superb as well. The tap beer selection comprised of the Dubbel, Cannibal (Belgian Blonde Strong Ale), Scrooge IPA, and their house regulars. All those tasted were good with the Abbey Dubbel nearing excellence. The bottle list is very enticing here, but I don’t know if it’s supposed to be as well garnished all the time as I visited on New Year’s Day. It comprised of 2 different vintages of the Old Ale, the Abbey Dubbel, Triple, Russian Imperial Stout, Wee Heavy, Quadrupel, Cannibal, Saison, Oak-Aged Quad (they were out though) and 2005 Sasquatch Barley Wine. How’s that to please the big beer lover! The only downside to this amazing selection is that these 750ml bottles are all around the 20$ range, which is very steep unless you are a huge fan of the said beers. Of those I’ve had so far, the Quadrupel was definitely worth the price tag. All in all, I hope to revisit this brewpub/restaurant as it is as ingenious an overall experience as the likes of 5 Seasons (GA), Trou du Diable (QC), or Cambridge Brewing (MA), to name a few. | | eaglefan538 (90), Wilmington, Delaware | | January 13, 2008 I enjoyed this Iron Hill much more than the Newark location. Food is excellent at both locations, but the bar was better and the service was friendlier. As with all Iron Hill locations, the standards plus a rotating pair or two. Not bad. Good beer. |
