| kseecs16 (145), Naperville, Illinois | | November 6, 2009 A little run down looking from the street, but a great comfortable spot that had a nice tap list going for my visit. I went with their pick your own sampler and enjoyed all of the beers I sampled with the stout and porter being two real standouts. Big menu, with some interesting options. Appetizer, soup and entree were all above average to very good pub food. Friendly service. Growler was a bit pricy. | | j12601 (64), Poughkeepsie, New York | | April 10, 2009 Excellent. Just flat out excellent. Stopped in here on the way back from a trip to Montreal, and had gone based on the recommendations on this page... and was very happy with the choice over a few others that would have been along the way. Good sized crowd downstairs at the bar, so we headed to the upstairs bar. One of the brothers (I’m guessing, didn’t catch a name) was one of the first to greet us, and was jovial, social, and with a great sarcastic wit. Ended up going through 2 of the (very well priced) samplers, with 6 5oz pours of your choice, plus a 10 oz of their special limited offering of a vintage strong ale brewed nearly 10 years ago. That in itself was worth the trip. Rest of the beers ranged from decent to pretty good. Food was served very quickly, and was also quite tasty. Highly recommended. | | Cletus (175), Connecticut | | January 4, 2009 Excellent food, excellent selection, excellent service. If in the Saratoga Springs area, definitely worth a stop. I sampled the tripel, smoked porter and IPA. All three were enjoyable. The food is restaurant food. | ddenomme (4), Mississauga, Ontario does not count - explanation | | May 10, 2008 Well maintained, friendly, very accommodating to families, tourists, and all kinds of folks. A must-visit in the area. I want to go back to sample more of the beers! | | Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | September 12, 2007 Great setting, inviting interior and nice large patio. Inside atmosphere is halfway between a pub a countryside restaurant. If you’re lucky (or unlucky) the owner/brewer will come to your table and give you his well rehearsed speech on “beer quality guarantee” (if you don’t like his beer just tell him and he will drink it for you). Quite funny actually. I liked the dude. 8 taps when we were there. Unfortunately the beer were at best ok (Double Hop IPA, Oatmeal Stout) to pretty bad (Scotch Ale). Food was a mix-bag too. My grilled chicken was so-so, the sweet potatoes were cut too thin but the Cheddar Stout Soup was nothing short of spectacular. I repeast: worth a visit if only for the Cheddar Stout Soup. | | Goldorak (110), Montreal, Quebec | | July 25, 2007 Nice sunny patio section. Great old bar, The brewery kettle had a brick façade built all around it, the tanks had wood paneling. If you only took a quick look, it looked ancient and nice, but if you pay a little more attention, it’s not very clean, it was covered with dust and cobwebs everywhere, fine and dandy when you’re brewing lambics, but maybe not so when you’re doing mostly British/American styles. The Beer list was posted on a large blackboard next to the bar, listed with %ABV and brewed on date, a fantastic idea! Beers were on average 2 months old.I went for the double IPA, so did most of the gang. I’ve had pale ales that were hoppier than this, and there was very little body to speak of. Those who chose something else weren’t impressed either. Our food came quickly and the soups absolutely floored us. My main course of crab cakes was okay but I’ve had better and cheaper. The citrus sauce it came with didn’t match too well. Those who took the bean burger liked it, the salads were fine and the chili was good but not great. So what’s the final verdict? I certainly didn’t hate the place, the overall ambiance is friendly and fun, and I should have asked for a growler of that soup, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get here just for the Beer. | | josarah (68), Hinesburg, Vermont | | March 15, 2007 The staff, the beer, the food and the venue areOutstanding. I travel around a bit and Richard has got to be one the most gracious host in the brewpub world. You gotta love his motto" If you don’t like your beer I’ll finish it for you" This is a must visit. | danball (5), gaithersburg, Maryland does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2006 Stopped in on a Sunday evening. the outside tables were almost full but I was the only one at the bar. Had two of their beers, which were very good, and the seafood pot pie, which was excellent. Barmaid was affable. I’d recommend this place to anyone. | punkinold (2), West Kingston , Rhode Island does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2006 By far one of the most friendly, service oriented restaurant I’ve been to. When we arrived we were greeted by Rick Davidson, brewer/owner, he expidited our beer orders from the bar as if we were VIP invitees. He the gave us the "beer guarentee" and escorted us to our table. The service continued throughout the dinner and out the door. As we left Rick came back up to us to see how we enjoyed ourselves. Service was suberb......NOW ON TO THE BEERS.
I started with a smoked porter which was very good. It was well balanced with only a subtle hop hint in the finish. The Belgium Tripel was exceptional, the fruity notes were perfectly balanced with notes of banana. The cream ale was also a good call, very creamy and well balanced. Several others in our group we pleased with their selections. Overall "2 thumbs up"
| | DYCSoccer17 (187), Davis, California | | October 2, 2005 Visited on a Saturday night. Bustling dark bar and brewery with view of the brewery in the front. Had a nice sampler platter of 6 beers. 5oz samples were given. Beer was well-made and the chili was ok. The fries were above average and better than Pittsfield’s. Staff was average. A decent place with above average food and above average beer. |
