| Travlr (45), Washington, Washington DC | | December 23, 2009 I’m torn between keeping this place a well-kept secret, or spreading the word, but here goes... Davy and Glenn were extraordinary hosts, sharing quite a good share of their range, including some not-yet-available brews. The beers were quite tasty, and this place has enormous potential. It’s the most personal brewery tour you can find! The store has a carefully selected range of beers from far and near, including Lost Abbey The Angel’s Share from the U.S., a huge amount of De Molen, BrewDog, etc, etc. Even Struise Brewer Urbain Coutteau joined us, and we helped his students brew a batch of Pipedream. My only regret is that I did not get to taste Glenn’s cooking, but maybe next time! | TheEnergy (2), , England does not count - explanation | | November 10, 2009 This was the first stop of our recent trip and what a way to kick things off! The service was fantastic - Glenn had pulled together a really tricky list of beers we’d been looking to track down and the atmosphere and setup were perfect. Walking up the narrow wooden stairs into the shop was akin to a Secret Garden experience. We sampled several of their latest brews of which the Melchior Calvados Barrel Oak Aged triggered instant purchases all round! On browsing the selection the prices were unbelievable across the board and we continued to fill our crates. I couldn’t recommend this place enough and it should become a regular first stop for all our future trips. | CapedBrewsader (4), Brasschaat, Belgium does not count - explanation | | October 29, 2009 I suppose its about time I rated this. Glenn and Davy have what I think is the best beer shop in Belgium. Its the only place in Belgium where you can buy great non-belgian beers... from Nøgne Ø to Three Floyds. Obvioulsy the Belgian beer choice is great. It’s really the only shop I know where you won’t find a single "bad" beer. It may be a small store but they pack in quality! Oh and the Alvinne beers are available too ;) | | Slayer85 (12), Firenze, Italy | | October 4, 2009 I visited this place only once this summer, on a very hot day and I can suggest this place to everyone. Nice, familiar ambiance, the beershop and the tasting room are upstairs. The selection is very good, even though not enormous, with no filler. lots of lambics, unusual Belgians and easily the best selection of foreign beers available in Belgium. Prices are good. Glenn and the other people there are very friendly, honest and knowledgeable about their beers. A must stop when near. | | jfb (18), Weihenstephan, Germany | | September 11, 2009 Came here with great expectations and was not disappointed. Great selection, great prices and very friendly service. Don’t think I need to say more, pretty much all has been said. A definite must-visit when in Belgium. | | JorisPPattyn (21), Antwerpen, Belgium | | August 25, 2009 The sign of the times: a brewery that has created space in order to sell products of their competitors - or, as I ought to say, their colleagues. And what it even more important, from those that are good in their eyes.
The choice might not be quantitatively overwhelming, the quality of the goods is beyond doubt.
However, what sets them apart from all other shops in Belgium, is that here the best of the FOREIGN competitors can be purchased - a true unicum in this country. So, don’t be surprised to find American, British, Danish or other fine microbrews here. Of course, some of the rarer and better Belgian microbrews will be presented as well, and the display is very inviting.
The own products are in evidence, and not only can be bought, but even tasted in the adjacent room.
Last but not least, every other Saturday, the room under the roof will invite you to a cunning tasting, brought together with small, but skillfully prepared food by brewer Glenn. | | marcus (91), Sacramento, California | | July 21, 2009 I shopped at many beer stores in Belgium and this is where I found most of the good ones. The prices are fair and the stock is very well-selected. Best of all, the proprietors are friendly and quite helpful. | | bhensonb (291), Woodland, California | | July 16, 2009 The beer selection is: only what is hard to find elsewhere. Glenn and Davy aren’t compromising. They don’t have everything that’s hard to find, but if they have it, it is otherwise hard to find. So it’s the most must place to shop. Value was just excellent. | harrisoni (6), Ashford, England does not count - explanation | | May 21, 2009 I’ve been here twice now and it goes down as one of the best beer shops I’ve been to in Belgium. Glenn and Davy are extremely helpful and approachable. The beer selection though is what this place is all about. An excellent selection of Alvinne, Struise and De Molen beers along with some other very good Belgian beers. It is also incredibly good value. This now goes down on my must visit places on a trip through Belgium. | | MesandSim (26), London, England | | April 20, 2009 This place is so amazing I almost don’t want to tell anyone about it, but word is spreading rapidly so...
This is (along with Jeppe’s amazing Ølbutikken) is easily the best beer shop I have been to and must be one of the top in the world. The first time I visited, myself, Sim and the other two ratebeerians with us were as giddy as kids in a sweetshop. The selection is utterly fantastic and gets better each time I visit. Not the biggest selection you will ever see but it’s all quality and no filler. My house is full of very high quality beer from this place and what makes it even better are the prices. Rare and world class brews for such little money it almost seems criminal.
Glenn and Davy provide service that is unbeatable. Glenn’s cooking needs to be tasted to be believed. And the tasting room next door just makes it all the better.
This place is right up at the top of the pile. If you don’t leave here with a huge smile on your face, you don’t like beer. |
