September 19, 2009 Nice old victorian type bar with a big rectangular bar. Nice restaurant upstairs, but we dined in the pub and the food was good. Large selection of whisky and a handful of real ales. Nice place but not a real beer destination. Service was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. |

September 9, 2009 Nice but crowded place especially at lunch time. Didn’t eat but the food looked good. 5 cask beers of which I drank Killellan and Sheepshaggers Gold. Reasonable prices. |

April 9, 2009 Nice pub, with a fairly static range of 15-20 cottish ales cycling over there 5 taps... decent quality and good if your not a regular drinker of scottish beers. |

December 1, 2008 Constantly-changing cask ales dispensed by five tall founts. A wonderful experience to sit by the old gantry and splendid island bar to sample different Scottish ales. Mini beer festival of five ales from Stewart Brewing during one of my visit. A very clean, decent and classic one roomed pub in central Edinburgh. Food upstairs at The Abbortsford Restaurant where Finn had Haggis some years ago! (visited 25/10 and 14/11-08) |

March 24, 2008 In for a quick visit, surprisingly 2 of the 4 beers on cask where new to me. Other than that pretty standard. |

September 17, 2007 Another nice scottish bar. Not the best selection of beers, but still a decent place to visit. |

September 3, 2007 Very nice looking pub, unfortunately with the dubious overflow return system for their cask ales. The couple of ales I had seemed to be in good condition though. Did not eat. |

September 2, 2007 A pretty good looking pub with a spectacular ceiling as if often the case in Edinburgh. Easy access in the heart of the New Town. A bit expensive and the selection of 4 cask ales felt a bit poor, but at least they had a Strathaven which was a new brewery to me. Under average. |

June 3, 2007 Only 4 ale taps on whats apparently an old system that pumps the overflow straight into the cask. I cant think how it manages to get in the good beer guide with banter like that. Local beers pestonpans beers that i hadnt had before in good condition. However im never at ease in edinbrugh and this place didnt mak me feel too much better. |
