EatsTacos (3), , Yukon does not count - explanation | | March 19, 2009 This is somewhat of a college bar, so on a weekend it can get pretty loud and rowdy. Beer selection is pretty good though, rotating taps for canadian micros based largely on having certain styles always available. Decent bottle selection as well | | frankenkitty (94), Oak Lawn, Illinois | | June 15, 2007 [ Updated June 23, 2007 ] I seem to have lost my notes on this place (and the beers I enjoyed there), but that’s not surprising since I was stringing my thoughts together on 2x2 Post-It notes that day... Regardless, this was a cool joint that I’m happy to have found while searching for the elusive Rte. 3. With unfinished floors and gray walls & trim, the interior of the Keaton had the feel of a run-down Victorian home. However, soft Jazz overhead and some low-brow art on the walls gave it an artsy twist. Comfortable. A fairly large patio was available to smokers. Nice beer selection (which you can check out on the myspace page posted above). Bartender Mark was very attentive and animated regarding beer and travel. We had a nice visit. I won’t rate the food since all we had was a cheese plate, but it was tasty and well-prepared.
By the by, if your cab driver (or anyone else) suggests to take Rte. 3 as the alternative "scenic route" from London to Niagara Falls, kick them very hard in the shin and yell "No THANK you! I’ll be taking the 401!!!!!" | Diablo9845 (4), Barrie, Ontario does not count - explanation | | April 15, 2007 Decent selection of beer. Very "different" atmosphere and very LOUD music. Beer selection was good, but the prices were somewhat high.
Service was slow, it was a busy night and only one person was working the bar. Didn’t eat anything.
Overall, I’d go for the beer, but thats it. Not my kind of scene. | StompBrockmore (4), Toronto, Ontario does not count - explanation | | November 6, 2006 [ Updated November 15, 2006 ] This bar in London, ON has gone through many incarnations/owners, but this latest one is by far the best. Run by enthusiastic, friendly, knowedgable people, this is one of the best places in London to get a good pint or bottle of beer. Their taps rotate regularly, always keeping a variation between Ontario craft and imports, such as Delerium Tremens. It’s a pretty youthful crowd in here, and they tend to bring in quality beers that are more easily pushed on that market (like the DT, and Rogue Chocolate Stout, or Dogfish Head). They bring in a lot of good and varied music from the surrounding area. Usually pretty busy in here on the weekends. Prices are good on local stuff and a little steep on imports, specifically seasonal stuff from the LCBO. My only other complaint would be that if you go there just to sit with friends, and are not really interested in the music, it’s pretty hard to escape - very loud. But that’s just the way of the beast, and they do have a very nice patio in the warmer months. All in all though, a great place that I always return to when I’m in London. | | HogTownHarry (24), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario | | September 7, 2006 Really nice place - an old Victorian house with a small bar area, nice outside patio, good atmosphere and a solid little selection of taps - when I was there, they had: Wellington County, St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, Hacker Pschorr - and a good import selection on bottle, some nice belgians. I don’t know much about the service - we stood at the bar - but the owners were friendly and enthusiastic and I liked the vibe, although it IS in a Uni area and there was some "performance comedian" with an accordian and attitude cranking up his routine. | | beanmedic (19), Hamilton, Ontario | | May 3, 2005 Decent beer selection, although lacking atmosphere. service was slow (our waiter disappeared - we eventually went to pay at the bar and left. no sign of the waiter). food offerings were unusual with no traditional dishes. 1 or 2 normal things would be nice. | | mds (100), Toronto, Ontario | | April 7, 2005 [ Updated July 29, 2005 ] So as soon as I moved to Toronto I found out about this place. Just went there for the first time a few weeks ago and I was quite impressed. London needed a place like this. They have a pretty good tap lineup which consists of some local micros that you wouldn’t find elsewhere in London along with some imports. Bottle list is pretty strong with the likes of Rochefort and St. Bernardus. Prices are decent. The food I tried was pretty good, diverse selection too. The night I went on, the service was a tad slow since it was very busy but they could have put another person on the floor to help out. That won’t stop me from going back there though. | | MrManning (48), London, Ontario | | February 19, 2005 [ Updated August 12, 2006 ] Updated review: Mark and Andrew are really doing something good here. They have continued to carry Ontario micros in their tap line up, as well as in bottles. They also feature good imports on tap like Delerium Tremens for example. I’ve also seen Hacker Pschorr, Stratford Porter, it is always changing. Bottle list is still 40+, and is also always changing. The Menu has been shrunk to ensure faster, more efficient service and consistency, and food is always tasty when I order. This is a tough venture for them as London is a student town, but they continue to push the enveolpe in a good way. |
