RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
American Flatbread in Burlington is the third store in a thriving Vermont chain of top-notch New England-style (thin, chewy crust) pizzerias; this new addition has something else to recommend: it’s own beer, and a top-notch collection of rare and excellent beers from around the world, including many that have very rare US distribution. Three handpumps. Located just a hundred feet from Vermont Pub and Brew, and two blocks from Three Needs. NOTE (Oct 2005):fall/winter hours in place now: only open for lunch on Fri-Sunday, dinner every day. UPDATE bottle list continues to grow, with some meads and ciders available now; prices are on the high side for most of them though.

blinesam | somewhat limited menu for a restaurant (pizza and salad) but here its almost a good thing. The bread on the pizza was absolutely the best I’d ever had and the other ingredients were very nice. reasonably priced.
As for the beer, The selection of Zero gravity was pretty impressive, i think there was about 10 or so. Had the samples at 50 cents each for varying amount of beer (my guess would be that it averaged 3oz). very good beer for the most part, and intriguing styles. My favorite brewpub in VT.

Boutip | Nice pizzeria located in what seems like an old warehouse. We sat on the small patio which was nice considering the weather. Service is good and staffs were aware of the beers availability. I didn’t stay for too long considering this was a family visit with the kids but the food was really good and the beers were also very interesting. Definitely a place I would recommend for anyone visiting Burlington.

| Beese | Absolutely one of the best brew-pubs/bars/restaurants I’ve been to in the US! The atmosphere is great, a really cosey and intimate feel to the place, during the day or at night. The flatbread itself is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced (I’ve paid more for really bad pizza), the oven out in the open for all to see is a very nice touch, although it can get quite hot if you’re sitting right in front of it! The staff are all very friendly and seem fairly knowledgeable on the beer front. The Zero Gravity beers that they make on sight were very good for the most part, I particularly enjoyed the Extra Stout and the Captain Ron IPA, they also had a great selection of guest taps and bottles all at good prices, some quite rare things as well. It’s quite fun to hang around after the restaurant part closes, the bar was very quiet when we were there and they turned the lights down and put a film on. Definitely the best place to go in Burlington.

IPFreely | Very comfortable surroundings, and I love that the hearth isn’t tucked away in the back somewhere. You get to see your flatbread being made and shuffled around inside of the hearth while in the dining room. Great flat bread pizzas, good service, and a rather extensive beer list. I was very pleased with the whole experience and would love to go back if I’m ever in Burlington again.

Sammy | The beer is not bad, decent on the zero gravity house brand. The attrction tonight was a special Magic Hat night, yet only one special Magic Hat was on, the Chaotic Chemistry. Taps are good and so that alone attracts a more mature portion of the crowd. Large bar area and good sized restaurant. Good it was open, as it was closed for reno or whatever on my previous trip here two years ago. Good experienced waitstaff who even knew a bit about the beers.

| Davin | The best beer list I have seen in Vermont and the Zero Gravity house ales can be very good too. Once every month or two they have a regional brewer come and talk. The flatbread goes well with the beer and you get the feeling that this place takes it’s beer as seriously as it’s food or more so.

VTHopHead | Cozy. Pizza (flatbread) is awesome. Small menu, but you don’t need much else. Beer selection is quite good with lots of interesting beers on tap and in bottles. This is certainly someplace to seek out when in Burlington.

| luna13084 | We go nearly every Friday after work. The atmosphere is relaxed with dim lighting and a toasty fireplace to sit by. The pizza never fails to be amazing though thats nearly always our secondary reason to go. The bartenders are knowledgeable (we like the one typically serving on Fridays best of all, Matt I believe his name is), the servers passable. They have a very good selection. 6 to seven house beers on tap, with probably 6 from other breweries as well and one or two on cask. Prices for their beers are very reasonable, and the rest I would say are fairly priced especially considering their rarity in the area due to the ABV cap of 8% and so/so distribution. glassware is nearly always appropriate, as is the beers temperature. One night they even had heated mugs of Quelque Chose. It is usually noisy and crowded though compared to most of the bars/pubs in this college town it’s downright low-key.

agl108 | Visited on part of my Burlington vacation. Stumbled in one night when they just happened to have a Unibroue event going on, which was nice. By far the best list of beers available in the area. Terrific homebrewed beers as well. The pizza at this place is badass, some of the best I’ve eaten. An absolute must, THE place to drink beer in Burlington.

kwoeltje | Old building in downtown Burlington with brick wall interior. Large selection of beers on tap including their own Zero Gravity and a guest cask ale. Also with a large selection of bottled beer, with regional beers well represented. Food is organic. I had their salad (they have only 1) and their Vermont sausage flatbread (not quite a pizza - no sauce, although you can get thtat on request) - both were excellent. A definite must-visit in Burlington. But check their website for times - they aren’t open for lunch every day - depends on the time of year.
