| chriso (164), London, England | | November 20, 2009 Slightly scruffy, boho cafe feel (which is fine by me) in a lively, late-night area. Free Wi-Fi, which isn’t common in Berlin (a real blessing as internet access in our hotel was outrageously expensive). Extensive beer list with a fair few German rarities (unlike Haus der 100 Bieres) that kept me busy for a leisurely afternoon while surfing the net, catching up on email etc. I believe it is open quite late at night and seems to have some sort of music venue attached but, as I only visited during the day and it was on the other side of town from where we were staying, I didn’t put that to the test. | visionthing (2), , Norway does not count - explanation | | July 27, 2009 Nice pub in a nice area. Good selection of both beer and whisky. They seem to have a vast selection of glasses too, because we always get the beer in the right glass (from the right brewery). | | Nordcore (11), North of, Norway | | July 12, 2009 A nice bar with a great selection of beer in a party street of town. Quite ordinairy inside, the weather was nice so we sat outside and had some nice beers. | | voota (92), Melbourne, Australia | | January 22, 2008 Awesome cafe in a great part of Berlin, beer list is great, long enough to keep you there all night. Service is excellent, food is a mixture of a few european influences and is done very well. Great music, great crowd... Very Berlin in character. I Could think of no better place to drink Berliner Weiss and all the Ayinger stuff until dawn. A must visit. Oh and the prices are pretty good compared to the other beer bars/brewpubs in town. | | detroitsteel (23), , England | | June 16, 2007 [ Updated July 5, 2007 ] To repeat previous reviews: great location, you can’t miss it. As its on Oranienburger Str you sit outside on the benches watching Berlin go by. Very pleasent. Service was friendly and prompt, the beers we had their were served in the correct glassware for the style. Has a really attractive laidback vibe to it, in keeping with the area. The beer menu was retricted to bottles (only Heineken on tap), which knocks down a few points in my opinion. The strongest point here is the German bottle selection. There are about a dozen choices in the Hefe weizen Hell/Kristall/dunkels and about 7 - 8 in most other catogries. The menu has a good ’specialties’ section where I found Engel’s Keller bier in both Hell and Dunkel varities amoungst other unusual brews. Amoungst the european beers it has about half a dozen Austrian beers as well as Belgians etc. As with most places in Berlin compared to UK prices it wasn’t expensive - about 3 euro a bottle, less that you’d pay in an uk supermarket. A great place to go to because it’ll keep both the beer geeks and the regular tourists in your party happy! Oh, and on the hookers front - there are ALOT less ladies of the night on Or. Str. than when I was here in 2000. Back the we nicknamed it ’Hooky Street’! | | Stew41 (71), Caulfield, Australia | | December 14, 2006 Very well located in the bar / restaurant strip smack band in the lively streets around the Oranienburger S-bahn station in Mitte. Plenty of tables inside as well as ample benches and tables on the street. Unspectacular bar food but will suffice for most needs (e6.0 – e9.0). Beer list (~115 beers) is nicely done and sorted by style. Macros / global brands / pilsners in 500ml should range around e2.80. High end Germans and Belgians will be closer to e3.50 per bottle. Good service and no problems with English. List standouts included: Andescher Doppelbock, Schlenkerla Rauch-Weizen) e3.20, St Bernardous 8 e3.30. Easily rivals Haus die 100 Bier for range albeit in a more relaxed and casual setting (and probably a better location). Highly recommended.
| | EithCubes (76), Indiana | | June 4, 2006 [ Updated June 2, 2007 ] Modern innards, sometimes live music, but more of a chatter’s paradise. They also have internet for public use. Probably first beer bar I found in Germany with a large selection. 40+ whiskeys, too. Might have to wade through the prostitutes if you leave later in the evening, but it’s usually not too bad. Right across the street from an S-Bahn stop, Oranienburger Str. , though it’s poorly lit from the outside. |
