10 reviews for Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria
| tronraner (100), Seymour, Tennessee | | September 8, 2009 A large downtown bar with very nice atmosphere. We sat down at the upstairs bar, which wasn’t the slightest bit busy. In fact, the two of us were the only people there for quite a while. The beer selection is between marginal and good, with enough things I don’t see at home to keep it interesting for me. The service was great, though I suspect the bartender was mostly just bored and looking for someone to talk to. Regardless, I have no complaints. | toadaron (1), , New Jersey does not count - explanation | | August 29, 2009 Good place to eat, or just hang out upstairs playing some pool or darts. Pizza is good - for South Carolina. Easliy the best selection of beers in the area, with a good variety and a good number offered. Note that different beers are available upstairs and downstairs. | | PorterPounder (181), Tallahassee, Florida | | June 29, 2009 Visited here in late June ’09 on a Friday evening. Place was packed - not even able to get a seat at the bar to eat - so I came back later and partook in the upstairs bar. Probably had about 20 - 25 taps upsatirs. Some decent stuff - a few I had not hand - Sierra Nevada Brown Saison and Southern Tier Big Red. Afew other uncommon ones as well - not just your usual micros and imports. One dissapointment though - did not see one tap of a North or South Carolina brewer - not sure whose fault that is - brewer, distributor, establishment or perhaps the consumer? Oh well. Loud, friendly, clean cut crowd who seemed to enjoy their beer - heard someone asking. Worth a stop if in Greenville - a decent little city. | | fiver29 (15), Cleveland, Ohio | | June 27, 2009 I visited on a Friday night and the place was packed. 70 beers on tap and over 100 bottles. This place has a great selection. There was an upstairs area with pool and 20 or so beers on tap. No food allowed upstairs. Restaurant was downstairs with the rest of the taps and bottles. The pizza is some of the best pizza I’ve had in a long time. Crunch crust and the top wasn’t overcooked. Service was slow. It was Friday and it was busy. So be it. I will be visiting again. This might be my Friday night hangout on Friday nights. | branimal9 (4), , does not count - explanation | | June 8, 2009 good pizza, great selection of beer...always something new to try either on tap or from the bottle. 2 floors with different taps on each. service can be hit or miss, but they are always pretty knowledgable. best place for beer in greenville, though, without question. | | CoachJT (14), Columbia, South Carolina | | October 23, 2008 Great taproom in downtown with some pretty decent food. When I lived in Greenville, this was my favorite stop. | | punkrkr27 (22), Berkley, Michigan | | April 25, 2008 Clean and nice location. Solid beer selection with lots of seasonals and specials. Great pizza and appetizers. Knowledgeable staff. Can’t imagine there could be any place better than this in Greenville. | | ksurkin (10), Norfolk, Virginia | | February 13, 2008 best place in greenville to get beer. honestly, the best selection i’ve seen in a while. only bar outside of New York to carry Brooklyn Blast IPA on tap! not to mention the rest of their great taps. the beer samplers are sweet. pizza is outstanding, and the spinach salad is a great way to start your meal. this place is a must if you find yourself in wonderful greenville, sc. | walter (7), Staunton, Virginia does not count - explanation | | September 26, 2007 Similar to my experience with the Asheville Barley’s. Located in Greenville’s pretty hip downtown, packed to the gills on a Friday night. Sidewalk seating is available, which is pretty ideal for drinking way into the wee hours-- more quiet and cool than indoors. Lots of great beer on tap, split between two bars, but you can’t get beer from the upstairs bar if seated downstairs, a real bummer. Attentive service from the wait staff, though the hostess was a bit out of it. Decent pizza. Fun place. | | NachlamSie (213), Tennessee | | February 1, 2006 [ Updated August 20, 2008 ] This is the biggest Barley’s and it’s also in good shape. It’s in a nice downtown area. There are plenty of beers to try here, mainly micros from around the area. I think the frustrating 6% law and the distributors prevent the beer selection from being better than it is, but it’s definitely satisfactory. There are plenty of pool tables upstairs which are spread out nicely and some dart boards as well.

I’d just like to add that I’ve visited here since SC raised the 6% lmit. Barley’s is going nuts already. Nearly half of their selection was dedicated to higher alcohol craft brews on my visit. This did seem to subtract from some regional stuff, but, I’d say the newer lineup of beers is of much higher quality.
[August 19, 2008]
I’ve visited a few times since the cap on beer has been raised and it has made a world of difference. This is now my favorite Barley’s location due to the sheer number of quality beer on tap. Not a staggering amount of regional stuff is available, but it is great to see things like Double Simcoe and Racer 5 on tap. They regularly have limited offerings from Brooklyn and Rogue. The ambiance makes for a really enjoyable bar visit. Plenty of pool tables along with foosball,
table hockey, and even shuffleboard are available. The upstairs is very spacious and not nearly as crowded as downstairs. My bartender was particularly awesome yesterday. He took a chance engaging me in very vulgar conversation, which luckily I found to be quite amusing. Good amount of cajones or perhaps just lack of concern on his part. Great service, regardless. |
