| HOPSHUNTER (16), Tampa, Florida | | June 6, 2009 [ Updated June 7, 2009 ] Decent selection of beer but thats about it. It’s a converted convenient store with all the charm of a soup kitchen. I never would have set foot in the place if vinerd hadn’t told me there was good beer inside. Service was non-existent, 1 guy stocked the cooler while the woman working the register chatted on the phone the entire time pointing to my total and only stopping to say a quick thank you. Who cares right, they have beer. They did have a pretty decent selection crammed inside and I mean crammed the aisles were so narrow I had to do a wierd sideways bend just to see what was on the bottom shelf. As much as I hate it I’ll be back. | vinerd (4), Orlando, Florida does not count - explanation | | May 15, 2009 Right around the corner from my apartment. Although the staff may not know a lot about beer, the selection is quite nice. Kind of surprised me to see some of the beers I saw. | | Nail (10), Georgia | | May 15, 2009 Shop with care at an odd little store with spotty service. One of the best selections in the area at decent prices. Worth the visit as a curiosity. | | BeerVirgin72 (76), Pataskala, Ohio | | February 21, 2009 Stopped in here on a road trip from Orlando. This little store is quite a find here! Three large rows of individual bottles for sale. LOTS of selection. Six packs as well, and a cooler with a nice selection too. By far, one of the nicest selections of craft beer I have seen in Florida. Very surprising being in the area that it is. We did not buy this visit, just window shopped, but the clerk greeted us upon our arrival. While I did not see anything extremely unusual, there were numerous beers I hadnt tried yet. Prices were slightly above average but not bad. | | dalepryor (16), Paducah, Kentucky | | May 20, 2008 One of my favorite stores in the area, actually the first store i shopped in for craft beers. The selection is great, and up to date on seasonal styles well before any major store gets them. Also the older beers you can’t find anywhere else, the prices are average lets just say i’ve seen much worse. The service is alright, i’ve only asked for help a few times, but i have run into quite a few distributors or people from certain breweries there that have always been a big help. You would never guess that this place had anything worth stopping for but it’s not about whats on the outside, you just have to go check it out for yourself if you haven’t already. | | hophead75 (83), Boonton, New Jersey | | January 12, 2008 Stopped in here today, as I am staying in Largo- and damn, this place is definitely an essential! From the outside, you would think this is a run down typical macro distribution store- then you see the massive selection of craft beer split up into three or four aisles. Struise Pannepot, plenty of bottles of Ommeggeden and Chocolate Indulgence, 6 or 7 different varieties of Jolly Pumpkin (a couple of which I haven’t seen anywhere esle) , and all of the other great stuff Logan and some others have mentioned. Normally I would give a run down looking store like this a low mark on ambiance, but the atmosphere feels completely different once you are in the beer aisles drooling over the awesome selection. | | BigMilly8 (22), Holiday, Florida | | September 29, 2007 I have been driving (or riding, when i was younger) past the place for years and years, and just thought it was a hole in the wall beer store for the drunks. But now getting into the craft scene and all this, i went in there to see what they had, and man it was nice. I havent been to a whole buttload of stores, but ive been to most of them around here, and i would have to say this place has the nicest selection. But just like everyone else said, there is some old stuff there, but thats good for some people, just be sure to look for date. | | DenverLogan (60), MileHi, Colorado | | April 15, 2007 Yep...little place looks like an abandoned convenience store. Walk in and there’s only two aisles of beer, but whoa sailor, they rock! I start up the aisle and immediately see: Bush Prestige $50, Gonzo Imp Porter signed copy $99, Curieux and Musette $19, Deus $25, 03’ Lou Pepe Kriek $24, 06’ Panil $19, 01’ Gales Conquest $5, t’Ij, Scaldis Noel, Stille Nacht, Casta Milenia $10, 05’ Unibrou $7.50, HeBrew Jewbelation $4.50, Bison, Jolly Pumpkin, Fort $19, Boulder Killer Penguin, 9 L St. Feuillien, Fift packs, Harvey Elizabethen $4.50, 04’ Hitachino Nest $4.00, 03’ Gales Prize $4.50, Butte Creek 10th Anniver. Imp. IPA (Whoa...I boutht that puppy, not available in CO and high praise...had to have...wow...we’re in Florida, remember!), Stouts, Sprecher, Rogue, Flying Dog Wild Dog $17, Duchesse, Belzebuth, DFH, Avery, Fish Tale Leviathan (I thook this also!), Baladin, ST. Bernardus 60th $12, Delerium, Fantome, Geants, Drie Fonteinen Sharbeeks Kriek, La Choulette. Yeah baby, this place rocks. Sure some are dated...bring them on!! I ask the dude, WHY do you have these!! The Pakistani? owner says, "Well, people like them!" Yeah baby, this is one fine little gem amongst bikinis and sand castles.
NOTE: I was there around Feb. 07. | | Quake1028 (30), Tampa, Florida | | April 4, 2007 [ Updated May 15, 2007 ] Best beer store in the Tampa area, bar none. In fact, this only trails Knightly as the best beer store I have ever been to. I was in there for an hour and still didn’t see everything they had. What I did see was about 50 beers I had never seen anywhere else in Tampa. Nogne, Olfabrikken, Struise Pannepot just to name a few. Prices are fair, and the service is there if you need them. I prefer to be left alone, so it works for me. Almost every sampler pack you can think of, tons of rare beers, and glasses as well. Almost the perfect beer store, except some stuff is a bit old and it could be a bit spacier. Overall outstanding for what it is. Well worth the 45 minute drive. | illkarate (1), Bloomington, Indiana does not count - explanation | | March 10, 2007 Good place. Has a relatively diverse selection for a one-time gas station(?). In addition to getting a few decent six packs, everything is also priced as a single, so mix-and-match works just fine. Impressed with the selection of Belgians, found some Cantillon. Had a nice array of beers from Great Divide, Avery and a few other American Brewers. |
