JanEric (2), Meppel, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | November 1, 2009 Long narrow bar, with some tables at one side of the room, at the other side beerstools. Lots of bottles, 10-12 beers from draught. This time a lot of bock-beers, furthermore some Amstel-beers. Also a lot of other drinks, whiskey, rum etcetera. Good atmosphere. | | alagnak (16), Littleton, Colorado | | February 5, 2009 Spend a lot of time here whilst @ office in Den Haag...great selection, great atmosphere and location on a quiet section of a lively canal. A quite comprehensive beer book. Nothing outrageous (Westvleteren about as ’rare’ as you’ll get here...and not always available...probably depends on how often the staff cross the border), but the best you’ll find in the area.
Food selection limited to sausage/cheese plate, but one of the best turkish pizza joints in holland is a just few blocks away (and near the station).
If you’re in den haag, and you’re a ratebeer kind of person, there’s absolutely no reason to miss it. | | Borresteijn (55), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | July 17, 2008 Long, narrow bar. Interior contains lots of wood. The bar has a real beer-atmosphere. Lots of bottles and beerpics. Nice selection of bottles, with a few surprises, but never exceptional. Tap selection is far from exciting, but very decent. Food is just pub snacks, but nice portions and quality stuff. Prices are acceptable. They also have a nice terrace on a boat. Worth a visit. | | ¾ (599), Colorado | | June 20, 2006 Should be your primary destination if you’re visiting Den Haag. It’s down a bit from the main part of town, so if you walk directly south from the cathedral (where De Fiddler is located), you’ll hit the Israeli district near the canal, but just take this road up a bit and it will change names to Bierkade. Inside it’s cozy, dark, wooden, smoky, old smelling and old feeling: has all the makings of a classic pub. They offer a large beer book, and prices are somewhat reasonable. I enjoyed a Rodenbach Grand Cru, a couple of lambics and a couple of Dutch beers while I was here. Bartender was a bit unapproachable, but nothing too bad, as is the norm I guess at these places. Beer list was quite expansive, though they won’t have any great vintages or rare bottles. | | Hunsell (43), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | January 9, 2006 Narrow, cosy bar, music just slightly too loud. Good selection, but few surprises on draught, as caesar mentioned. The best bar in The Hague, but there is not much else really... | | caesar (119), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | | January 7, 2006 Small but long cafe, with a long bar. Small selection on tap, but hardly any uncommon beers, although they are a member of the ABT, which supplies uncommon tap beers. To make this up, they have a very good bottle selection, lots of good belgians are present. Staff knows what they are talking about. Food: only snacks are available (at least as far as i’ve seen), and the trappist cheese platter did not really impress me. |
