RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
The Big Dog Hospitality Group had been in Las Vegas for several years. They used to own the now closed brewpub, ’Holy Cow’ on the strip. They have moved their brewing endeavors to this location which has been established since the late 80s. The brewery opened Feb ’04. this is one of the largest brewing systems in Las Vegas with lots of room to grow. The bar has been rated by the RJ best bar ’93, ’94 and best sports bar in ’98. It’s a hang out for Greenbay fans and theres a bunch of Favre stuff hanging on the walls. I think you can even buy a cheesehead if you like. The food is typical pub grub but good, they have several Wisconsin brats on the menu and beer battered fries; a cholesterol delight. Finally the beers: They have 7 taps of their regulars and 1 seasonal/specialty, there is one Guinness tap as well. Several bottled macros for those who like the swill. The beers are good and Holy Cow had won a few GABF metals and these are of the same caliber, maybe even the same recipes. The IPA and Pale ale are good and if they brew the Pumpkin beer this year, it’s worth a try. This location may be out of your way. If it is, check the the Places section for other Big Dog locations.

kp | Best beer in Vegas.

Brew Dog’s has been a favorite of mine since the mid nineties when they had the Holy Cow at the top of the strip. I really missed that place after the fire. But from the ashes they rebuilt a better place outside of town.

This place will have a dozen beers available. Lots of standards and seasonals. And the seasonals can be anything from double IPA, to an imperial stout, to a barley wine (once they put on a year old BW), to one of the best scotch ales I’ve ever had. This is the only place in Vegas that gets into the Pizza Port Strong Ale festival every year.
*
This is otherwise a fairly typical Vegas bar. Machines are built into the bar and you get free beer (any beer) while playing the machines. Sound is off or very low so that it sounds like a bar rather than a casino.
*
Food is typical bar food, well prepared. They are famous for their steak sliders. These are small pieces of steak done on a bun similar to a White castle or Krystals but a much better execution.

To get to Big Dogs, take the 106 bus from the downtown terminal (about a block from Main Street Station). The bus will let you off right across the street from Big Dogs (it is almost at the end of the line). To get back, hang a right outside the door and walk down to the end of the block. The bus stand is across the street. Stop by the Lee’s Liquor store on the way and pick up stuff to take home or consume during your stay.

Don’t forget to pick up a Big Dogs growler to take back and enjoy with the lack of open container laws in Vegas. Feel free to walk around the streets and casinos chugging on your growler moonshine style. But beware that a growler of the weizen bock will kick your ass and drain your wallet, leaving you with nothing but pain the next afternoon.

| Inflames | Place isn’t awesome but they deserve a better overall score. For those that went back in the day I say try it again.

lb4lb | Last stop of the 3 brewpubs we visited while in Vegas. Sat at the bar, and the entire area is a bit smokey and dark. Not the most conduscive to beer rating, but what can you do? Had 2 samplers of 5 beers over the hour or 2 we were there. Prices were reasonable, and while the bartenders were nice, it was quite difficult to get their attention even though it wasn’t too busy. Place was mostly full of locals, rather than tourists it seemed. I found that the beers here were about on par with the 2 other places we visited in Vegas. Nothing blew me away, although the fresh hopped beer was pretty nice. They had 10 beers on tap at the time we went, with a nice variety, and a micro brewed rootbeer that I didn’t try. If not for the dark, smoky environment, I’d recommend this more, but as is, it was still decent enough and a good place to sample a bunch of new local brews.

presario | Ate at a table. Waitress was friendly and efficient. I thought the samples in the sampler were stingy served in almost shot glass sizes. They were out of the IPA. Food was good. Fairly dark barn.

ratman197 | The ambiance was nice and friendly feeling, not as dark as most Vegas pubs. The service was a little slow but not bad.The beer selection was good for a brewery with 7 or 8 selections. The food was tasty Wisconsin grub. I had a ribeye and brat sandwitch that was amazing!. One of the better places to stop I seen in Vegas.

bitter | its’ funny i wrot the ratebeer brew tour comments but i dont have a rate here. in the past i thought the draft house had the best brewpub beers in the las vegas area. upon a recent trip out i sampled several of their beers and decided they were decent and worth a look but nothing great. the brewpub isnt really a brewpub at all, it was the draft house many years before adding. its kinda sports barish with regulars who do not drink this beer at all. average.

| beerprincess | This place was a lot of fun. The environment was relaxing, the food was great and the beer was fantastic. This was where I had my first IPA!

| beerlist | A bit dark, takes awhile to adjust to the lack of light after coming in from the desert sun, especially if you’re night-blind like I am. Crowded during Packer games, but fun if you’re a Packer fan. Bartenders are usually very attentive. Excellent beer selection, usually 10-12 on tap at any given time. Menu is extensive with a definite midwest flavor to it, and most of the food is quite good. It’s a bit far from the Strip, but certainly worth a trip if you have transportation.

Humulone_Red | This place is not the best for service or ambiance but the beer can be pretty good. The food is average. On my last trip my wife had a pale and I had the IPA. Both were solid. It is worth a visit.
