| MrsReaves (11), Meckel, Germany | | September 30, 2009 MrReaves and I took his mother and cousin here on a short trip to Berchtesgaden/Salzburg. Unfortunately, we got there too late to grab a seat in the ginormous biergarten or under the covered patio. We sat inside in one of the truly impressive smoking friendly dining halls. Meals are served food court style meaning you get your own, and they were a bit expensive. I was the DD, but MrReaves said that the beer was very tasty and it came in a cool 1L stein. Will definitely go there again. | | pumpmaster (22), Pembroke Pines, Florida | | May 27, 2009 Great place. Recommended by a local bartender. Good beer at good price and a huge biergarten. Not a tourist trap. Enjoyed by locals even with dogs. 2.80Euro the 0.5 liter mug and 6.10Euro the souvenir mug (empty) | | gerrit (12), , Austria | | May 15, 2009 thats tradition, good beer, but only one, in time before easter there is another good beer "Fastenbier" and to chrismas the stron bockbeer, cool place to be | | jeverszeuge (13), , Germany | | April 29, 2009 one of the most beautiful biergärten i know. price for food ist expensive, price for beer is ok. one of the very few locations where you get your beer in a beerstein. so you never know how much you get. but you just waggle the stein and if head moves much the beer is full. if not - give it back and they out some more in.
also very rare: the big wooden barrels. if you are lucky (or waiting a lot) you can see the anzapfen. | | MartinT (348), Montreal, Quebec | | January 9, 2009 This place has to be experienced. The entrance from Augustinergasse makes you go through a few small rooms which make you feel like you are in an austere monastery. Then you go down stairs and reach the long hallway, a quite of schwemm actually, where all the food stands are and some locals drink standing up. Some are in traditional atttire and proud of it! There are 3 gigantic rooms to choose from, and all three were nearly full on a Sunday evening. Just a grab a krug from the shelves before Room 3, get a guy to pour the Märzen for you (the only beer served from a gravity keg here) and head off to your selected seat. Basically, it’s the keller concept, but inside. On your way to your table, you may encounter a 20-piece oompa band jamming in some corner, some couples dancing to their music, people laughing and hitting tables with their fists, etc.. This uplifiting communal atmosphere is worth the trip alone, even if you find the beer not to your liking. | | polarbeer (10), | | December 1, 2008 Great place to hangout after site seeing in Salzburg. You can bring your own food or they have stands there to buy different food from vendors. There is a non smoking and smoking room with a lot of nice wooden tables and chairs in both. They had two beers to choose from on tap from wooden barrels. I had the bock and it was great. I really like the mugs. I tried the other beer and it was good but too plain for my taste. | | nate2g (154), Brisbane, Australia | | November 29, 2008 I visited here a few times for the fantastic 1L mugs of Marzen, well worth the walk along the river to get here, massive beer hall with outside seating, and food stalls out front, not a bad way to relax after a tough day of sightseeing in Salzburg! | iammarc (9), Inverness, Scotland does not count - explanation | | October 26, 2008 Oct 2008, fantastic sized halls, great quick service, enjoyable beer. Great selection of food, unfortunately we didn’t stay long enough to have any though. Well worth a visit. €2.70 half-litre, €5.40 Litre of marzen. | | pivnizub (273), Bochum, Porúří, Germany | | August 10, 2008 Huge beer-garden and monastery in the outskirts of Salzburg, very similar to bavarian Kellers. A must when You are in Salzburg and when You are tired of Mozart and Karajan...... | | KyotoLefty (132), Kyoto, Japan | | July 25, 2008 Only one kind of beer. Food stalls where you line up to order and pay too much. Doesn’t sound too special, but this is heaven. The beer is superb and the atmosphere to die for. Forget going to church, just lead me to the monastery. Every beer lover who is anywhere near Salzburg must visit this place and drink several liters of this lovely brew. Hope I can make it back for the Bock next time. |
