The preeminent bar located near Denison University. Honored as the "Most Arrogant Bar in America" by Stone. Great beer selection, and they let you buy beer to go. Restaurant downstairs and "Brews Too" bar upstairs. Worth the drive!

JCW | Years ago I used to visit my grandparents in Granville, so I’ve always wanted to visit this place. Granville has changed quite a bit, I couldn’t get a phosphate at the local drug store bar anymore, but all and all I wasn’t disappointed. Brews Cafe is without a question the best beer bar I’ve been to in Ohio, possibly the best period. Lots of one onlys on tap, and a bottle collection that is second to none. On tap, they had Harviestoun Ola Dubh (30 Year Old) , many of Ommangang’s stuff on tap that I’ve never seen any where else, etc, etc. Food was great pub food. Neat little town to go to regardless of Brews Cafe to boot. Great beer stop.

Dogbrick | (Visited 08/2006): Brews is nestled in downtown Granville. Evidently it recently moved from a few doors down but kept pretty much the same layout. Street parking is plentiful in the vicinity.
The downstairs area is devoted to a restaurant and beer bar, with the bar running along the right side of the wall. Lots if brick and funky lighting adorn the downstairs. Upstairs is Brews Too which caters more to the sports crowd and live bands.
The beer selection is phenomenal. There are around 20 beers on draught from the likes of Stone (a necessity as Brews has been named Most Arrogant Bar in America in the past), Dogfish Head, Rogue, GLBC and many more. As for bottles there are over 100 and they run the gamut from craft beer in the states like Bell’s, GLBC, CBC, Rogue, Stone to imports like Sam Smith’s, Young’s, Paulaner...the list goes on and on.
The service here was good at an early lunch. The server knew the beer and offered to bring samples of anything we wanted to try. She was on top of things through the whole meal.
As for the meal, both the fish sandwich and rueben were very good.
All in all this place more than lived up to my expectations. It manages the difficult task of combining a huge beer selection with a reserved approach to beer appreciation. Superb, and well worth the 45 minute trip from home.

john_adam2002 | This place was amazing! I arrived around noon and didn’t have to wait to get a table. I sat upstairs. Lots of room. I ordered a Breakfast Stout and a Burning River on tap. I had the Chili which was awesome. Very spicy which was perfect. I was also reccommended the Philly Chessesteak by Dawn. It was alright. I had high expectations on this so it wasn’t really fair. Not alot of grease and chesse. It was good though. I had some Blue Chips that my cousin ordered. Out of this world. Chips soaked in alfredo sause with blue chesse chunks all over. The waitress was very nice and surprisingly knowledgable about beer. After my lunch I went downstairs to get a couple of bottles to go. I’m really jealous that Speedway is a regular in Ohio. I picked up a Speedway, Alesmith IPA, Yulesmith, and a couple Great Lakes brews (can’t remember off the top of my head). The prices were really reasonable for it being a bar. This is a must stop if you’re in the area.

BeerVirgin72 | Ahhhh. This place is GREAT. I can NOT believe I live 15 minutes from here and have NEVER been...Headed down on a Saturday afternoon...They were not too busy during lunch. Service was a tad slow, and our waitress was a bit new and not very knowledgeable. That, truly, was the only low point...The food was excellent. Seriously. I ordered the Philly Cheese steak and it is the best I have had outside of Philly! The beer, WOW...Soooo much to choose from...Very generous portions/servings of food and alcohol, and the prices were great! We will definitely be back here again soon!!!

| JMFS | I don’t know how my sister does it; she lives in Granville, but somehow manages not to live at Brews. The new location is great (and very necessary), but I miss the bluegrass open mic night from the old bar upstairs.
As has been mentioned, the tap and cooler selection tops just about any place in my area (Cleveland), and you can’t beat the quaint, out of the way sort of feel of the locale. I was unaware of the "Most Arrogant Bar" award, which tongue-in-cheek, I would have to agree with.

OhioDad | We made the 50 minute drive from Hillard out to Granville to visit Brews today and I was absolutely impressed with the great new building. 3 stories with a nice old world pub feel. Great taplist. 45 handles! And a huge wall of coolers behind the bar that I didn’t even get into. How could I with all the unusual taps they had. Food was much better than this site lets on too. I had the NY Strip with Onion rings and a great porter bbq sauce on it that I tried very hard to get the recipe for... Service was excellent and they catered well to my family of 5 . My waiter was quite friendly and knowledgable about the beers they served. I noticed that children isn’t checked on here but I certainly didn’t see where they were a problem at all. I agree with the previous poster that said this is the best bar in Ohio. I agree as far as selection this one might be the best at least in Central Ohio! Awesome place!

| bigbeermonkey | Overall, it’s a nineteen out of twenty, because we’re really talking about beer here right? The food is OK, but the beer selection is from around the world. A forty minute drive toward the east from Columbus is well worth it when you arrive and see the beer behind the counter!

MAP | One great place. Makes me with I went to Denison for school. I was never carded there, even when I was 17 and went to the Arrogant Bastard promotion. The staff generally seem to know what going on with their beers and theyve always had a diverse lineup of taps. Upstairs has a nice bar area for those looking to play pool and get drinks, so its got something for everyone.

| bfulton | This has got to be the best beer bar in Ohio, they have approx. 250 botteled beers and 20 taps all craft or imported.
The food is excellent, and the rumor is they are moving to a larger building which when they get there they are doubling their taps to 40 taps.
