tpatrickr (5), Richmond, Virginia does not count - explanation | | October 11, 2009 Weekends are too buisy, too noisey, and the service is overwhelmed and distracted. ( For a few dollars more, try Hondo’s, two doors down.) That being said, if you can make it on a week night, look forward to attentative staff, a massive selection of brews, and passable to good roadhouse food. | crzybob77 (2), Richmond, Virginia does not count - explanation | | April 1, 2009 You can’t beat this place for draft selection (well, at least no place I have been to). Probably go here a few times a month. | | ben4321 (44), Rockville, Maryland | | March 3, 2009 What can I say? I love this place. I’ve been going here since it opened. You can usually find about 100 beers on tap. Nice outdoor area in the summer. Game room usually has darts available. Tons of bar seats, open space, etc. Just a great beer bar. Nice tap listing, and a great bottle list. Specials many nights, keep your glass, discount beers, etc. Great in any city, but in Richmond its unbeatable (and has a downtown brother that’s almost as good). | | illinismitty (224), Nashville, Tennessee | | February 1, 2009 This was walking distance from my hotel. It was a weeknight and very busy and loud with a mixed crowd as far as age. The inside is open and very modern, with dim and colored lighting. There is a front non-smoking bar that has 8 or so taps. The main bar where all the good stuff is located allows smoking (I took some points off for that). Dining area is open and right next to the bar. Tap selection is outstanding, and the bottle selection is as well. The bottles are nicely displayed in coolers behind the bar, and they have a beer list that stays current. The food is a little pricey, but I was here for 2 for 1 wing night. The wings are excellent! Be sure to ask about vintages or new releases. This is a place worth checking out, just on the selection alone. One thing to note, no TVs at any Capital Ale House location. I guess they figure that is a distraction to the experience and concept. However, I bet that kills business during games. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | June 13, 2008 Very friendly service. Massive beer list. Not afraid to leave a burger a little bloody. 750 mL beer was corked and poured for us, which was a nice touch. Nice atmosphere. Parking is a little tight, but not horrible. Too bad I was the driver or I could have stayed a LOT longer. | MOOK4VT (3), does not count - explanation | | April 2, 2008 Great place. $1 Burger night on Mondays. Steal the Glass on Tuesdays. And the Octoberfest celebration is a must. The draft selection covers all bases with high quality beers. My default dining/tasting location... | | Butters (151), Virginia | | February 27, 2008 This place is pretty great. I’ve never seen so many taps in once place. Their selection outshines their downtown location, though, I still prefer the atmosphere downtown better. Definitely worth a stop if you can’t make it downtown. | growler (3), West Virginia does not count - explanation | | December 29, 2007 Stopped by for the Kierstbier festival. Great food, excellent service and a wide selection of beer in both bottles and drafts i(over 65 taps, ncluding several local VA beers). Staff is very knowledgeable and goes out of the way to make you feel at home. Without a doubt worth a visit if you are in the area. | Hazmatt (9), Virginia does not count - explanation | | October 21, 2007 More upscale than downtown, more modern cleaner feel. Knowledgeable staff. Food is great, althoough selection somewhat limited, but this is a beer bar. Beer menu’s are up to date and thorough. Organized well. Outdoor area is nice, brook runs by only drawback is the tall buildings nearby. Prices could be a little less. Overall this is a real classy place with great food, service, events, great beer and nice setting. | | radagast83 (43), Fairfax, Virginia | | September 3, 2007 Pretty wonderful place. From what I was reading about it I expected it to be a little bigger, but I really can’t complain. It’s not small by any means, but when I heard about "upstairs" and "downstairs" bars I expected more than just 2 or 3 steps separating the elevation of the two. But anyway....
We did not sit at the bar as one of us was underage and serving as DD. I did not eat the food, though it did look pretty good. From what I saw it was definitely pricey (like upscale city prices). The beers were not priced like that, and in fact they were relatively cheap for what we got.
They are one of the few places that seems to actually care about the selection they have as they actually print a menu of all their beer (The disastrous trip to Tidewater’s Bier Garden proved that you can’t claim to have a huge selection without being able to back it up on paper, and while DC’s Brickskeller’s selection might be greater - their menu is always out of date), so it was refreshing to find a place that updates their menus just about every single week! The staff knew what they were doing, but became very slow at the end of the night (it seemed to get slower as the tables emptied!). |
