RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
Beautiful building, the historic Post Office, right next to Union Station. Decent brewers with rotating selection of their own beers. Food is a bit overpriced, but decent.
Two other locations in the area: 1100 New York Ave., NW, Washington, DC -- 202-628-2222; and 2700 S. Quincy St., Arlington, VA (Shirlington) -- 703-578-3888. Arlington location brews the beer for the NY Ave location.

| NelsonCrowle | Visited 8 August 2008 (Friday) at 6PM. Nice bar very near the Capitol and other DC monuments. Beers were above average with the Imperial Stout and Pale Ale as very good. Good food too.
BEERS (sampler of 7-4 oz beers for $7.50) - see www.BuildABeer.org for detailed beer ratings.

Kevster | From 4/6/08 Sunday lunch visit: Nice location near Union Station and the Capitol. It’s housed in the historical Postal Square Bldg. Very nice ambiance, wood floors, and copper kettles at the center of the bar that seats approx. 50 people. Also, has two levels of dining. There are tv’s, but not many in close view. The food was very good and I had the Southwest Keg Roll and the Stout Ale Chili. The beers were very good and Fuel was on tap at the time of my visit. Good beers + Good service+ nice location = I’ll be back when I’m in D.C.

JoeinUccle | For years I assumed that this was a tourist-trap brewpub and that there would be nothing special about the beers. So I didn’t even bother. Then I visited and learned the beers were better than decent, and the food was pretty good too. Great location next to Union Station. Very friendly staff when I was there. Now I wish I’d paid more attention to the place when I lived in DC.

eaglefan538 | Just like their other location in terms of selection and service, which were both pretty nice. The atmosphere was more wide open feeling, lots of space with the bar and taps centered around the copper holding tanks. Didn’t have any food and this was my nightcap, so we didn’t stick around too long. Thanks, bfeld, for the beer hotline counsel in getting us there :).

sinkr | I like the old world facade, but like a lot of brewpubs, they don’t keep up with what they actually have to offer, versus what they have on their chalkboard. The few times I’ve frequented, I’ve found the service to be better that a lot of brewpubs, including some chain restaurants.

BückDich | Nice old building next to Union Station, easy to get to from about anywhere. I came in for lunch, and the place was swarmed with government workers, which I’m not too used to from back home. Large, tons of seating, nice selection of taps, ok food, a bit better than the usual chains. Nice selectino of Capitol City beers, a few up on the other chains. I didn’t feel too comfortable here, but a banquet party with a frat party or office meeting would be just dandy.

Stine | Nothin much to say about this place, really. The beer is slightly above average, and there’s no standout amongst their regulars that would keep one coming back here. My food was just really not that good. Cheap ingredients, subpar preparation. Sheer boredom. Big atmosphere. Ehhh...once in a while I’ll come back I guess. I think the barmaid had a crush on me. No, seriously.

| n49921 | Great location, great ambiance. Beer is worth the trip, but not as good as John Harvards. Food is fine - nothing special, but what you expect at that price level. Pretzels in the old days was a nice touch. A good solid place that I go back to time and again.

bigcat03 | A great place to eat if you have the time. Service was seriously slow and they weren’t busy at all. Had the "Simply Chicken" and it was wonderful. The best meal I had on my trip through the Eastern states. Sampled the Irish Red and IIPA and must say that both were well done. Wish I could’ve stayed longer and tried more. I think they had 5 or 6 styles on tap. Central location is a definite plus. Next time I’m out that way, I’ll stop by again!

mkgrenwel | Big bright restaurant with a huge ceiling. It’s located next door to Union Station, so it gets points for convenience. The beer ranges from OK to pretty solid. Their Amber Waves is actually quite good for an amber. The food is a bit more adventurous than your average brewpub or "family restaurant" and it’s pretty good, but it’s still not the Belga Cafe. Service can be a little spotty, especially at the bar. There’s nothing really great about it, but I’m inexplicably fond of the place.
