| rcr484 (11), | | December 15, 2009 Crescent City Brewhouse opened with much fanfare, ushering in the first brewpub in New Orleans, right at the start of the craft brewing craze. From the start, their beer was fabulous, and the food primo. However, over time they’ve become more of a tourist staple than a beer-drinker’s destination. I suggest the sampler, if anything. The gator bites used to be pretty good, too. Personally, I have a few other choices in the quarter that would surpass this location. | | jfosu (11), | | December 14, 2009 A lot of people hit this place up because they hear it’s the only true brewery left in the quarter. That worked on me too a few times when I first moved to the city. If you enjoy beer this place is not for you. While they do brew on site it doesn’t seem they put much effort into it. The brewing seems to be more of a gimmick/novelty to bring customers through the door than anything else. They usually have five different brews, none of which are anything special, available on tap. They serve nothing else and charge absurd rates for the beers. The food is average at best but for the prices it should be much better. Just an example - I got a german sausage and sauerkraut meal with some potatos last time and it was nearly 20 dollars for the meal alone. The ingredients probably cost 2 dollars. The markup is wayyy too high! Avoid this place. | | Derek881 (26), Frederick, Maryland | | October 15, 2009 I enjoyed a meal at the brewhouse while on vacation in New Orleans. It was a fairly nice establishment in an older building, and had a good-looking brick interior with live jazz music at night. The service was very good and everything was delivered as expected. However, the beer selection was fairly weak for a brewpub, and the beer itself was sub par; I certainly had higher expectations. The food was great, and made the meal, but everything was fairly expensive, which lowers the value of the restaurant. Overall I had a good experience, and would go back under the right circumstances, but with low expectations from the beer. | | sebletitje (80), Tampa, Florida | | July 26, 2009 Nice location with great food. Short distance from French Quarter and TN river.
Atmosphere was nice with brewing equipment right behind the bar.
Beers are nice for LA though nothing fancy about them. Many could be nice if tweaked a bit.
Service is good but always this same corporate feel. Food was delicious. Better to get there in mid afternoon before the place gets packed. | boomerbrew (5), Texas does not count - explanation | | May 22, 2009 This is a great place to go and have a few beers and appetizers. As far as the bar scene, the people are very friendly. Pretty good beers. The restaurant however has slow service and the food (steak dinner) isn’t what I had hoped for. They do have a great room upstairs for big parties overlooking the street and river. That part of it was a great time with beer and appetizers when we where there with a wedding party. | | kseecs16 (146), Naperville, Illinois | | April 9, 2009 Right on Decatur in the center of the French quarter. Nice old brick facade, fairly dimly lit. Copper brewing equipment behind decent sized bar. Nice ambiance. Quick, friendly service. Four beers plus a seasonal on tap. Beers are fairly pricey, though large. Had an appetizer which was quite good. | | kiefdog (103), Tampa, Florida | | March 1, 2009 Visted on a Thursday afternoon during Mardi Gras. We missed the lunch rush and had a chance to sit at the bar and kill a few pints. Reasonable ambiance accentuated by the copper brewing tuns and the brewmaster hard at work during our visit. Most of the beer we sampled was marginal at best but the ambiance and food are respectable. Worth a trip when in the area. | | desurfer (78), Pinellas Park, Florida | | November 18, 2008 Pretty good beers; not many brewpubs specialize in lagers. Nice pils. In keeping with the German theme, I had the sausage with sauerkraut. Very tasty. Nice, cozy feeling decor. Definitely worth a stop in the French Quarter. | | Taverner (79), San Ramon, California | | October 15, 2008 Food? GOOOOD. It’s New Orelans - the food here is so good its retarded. The beer? Meh. Major suckage. Not even a decent ale in the house. But the staff is great, friendly, and it is touristy, but its a good touristy. | | guzzler67 (25), Hanover, Maryland | | September 21, 2008 Mixed feelings about this place. First, the location is great if your starting point is in the French Quarter, as it is right across from the old Jax Brewery. The service was spot on. And the building itself has a lot of charm, from the courtyard and the balcony, to the main bar and dining room. On the less positive side, the beer was uninspired and was probably meant to cater to the gentler palates of the tourist trade. A pils, weissen, marzen, dark wheat, all were pretty interchangable. No great bargains on the menu, either, although just around the corner you can find a more authentic Po’Boy for $$$’s cheaper. Worth a visit, just so you can form your own opinion. |
