| phishpond417 (51), Madison, Wisconsin | | August 2, 2009 Our third stop of the day on our way out through western Wisc. A quaint little brewpub with a small seating area and a nice long bar. The bartender was ok as far as service goes but the brewer takes the cake. The guy was probably one of the friendliest and inviting brewers I’ve ever met. He gave us a personal tour of his operation and explained everything to us in fine detail. The beer was absolutely excellent. It was so true to the style. It’s so refreshing to finally taste German beer the way it’s supposed to taste. As a guy who has worked at a handful of breweries both here in the states and overseas, you can tell he knows his shit, and he loves to brew more then anything. If I ever go through Menomonie again I will definately stop here . | Tripplebrew (2), Saint Paul, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | October 17, 2008 Located in a small college town with not many options, so das bierhaus is a beacon of light of anyone who isn’t a drunk college student. They definitely put time and thought in crafting beer and for them it is a process to create a good beer. The Germans in the back cooking are always interesting. Go have a schnitzle and beer and enjoy. | | WisconsinBeer (10), St Paul, Minnesota | | October 17, 2008 Das Bierhaus is located in the small town where I grew up, so I’ve been there quite a few times. All the beers I’ve had here have been good to excellent, with an emphasis on authentic German styles. The brewmaster himself is Deutsch, my German speaking friends sat and had a conversation with him the last time we were in town. Food is good, with the typical German restaurant type of fare, including lots of meat and potato type of dishes. A few light beer slurping college students stumble in from time to time, but for the most part the good beer scares them away. Even on a Saturday night, it’s a nice place to enjoy a relatively quiet dinner and a few glasses of great beer. If you’re driving past Menomonie on I-94, I would definitely recommend stopping here for beer. It’s only about 5 minutes south of 94, so check it out if you’re in the area! | | tennisjoel (29), Shakopee, Minnesota | | August 13, 2008 This is basically a secret place, because, it is in a small town in western Wisconsin. Which makes it kind of cool. Laid back atmosphere. When Islay and I went (on our way to Madison for the GTMW), it was pretty dead, although I’ve heard it picks up with college students in town (UW - Stout). This is an authentic German brewpub, with German owners, and of course, German beer. While there, besides ordering the sampler, I also was able to sample some of the blonde doppelbock (Gambrinator), which was very good. For eats, I had the cod sandwhich. Nice place, I’ll be back, at least to fill a growler when I’m in the area. | Baumgartner (2), Eau Claire, Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | July 29, 2008 [ Updated February 6, 2009 ] Das Bierhaus = Authentic bavarian brew pub. On my first visit to Das Bierhuas I was immediatly bombarded with the sounds of polka music and the heavy odor of sausage and sourkraut. The food and drinks menu may be a little small but what the lack in quantity is definatly made up in quality. Wonderful beer and company. Everybody should visit Das Bierhaus at least once. | | JK (118), Richfield, Minnesota | | October 1, 2007 A fun place. The beer special was a great price, $6 for 1L of Oktoberfest. Service was very friendly and liked discussing their products. German brewmaster really knows what he is doing. The food is very simple, and they said they don’t have the kitchen to do a lot and they want to focus on the beer, but a few more items would be good. I didn’t see any dessert menu, strudel would be good. Great atmosphere, covered in Bavarian breweriania. Mixed crowd with adults as well as college students. I only saw one import for beer, but maybe there were more. Several macros because that is what some of their customers want. | islay (7), Minneapolis, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | September 3, 2007 I just wrote a long and glowing review of Das Bierhaus. Apparently it was too long, and I received a message that I needed to keep the review under 1400 characters. I hit the back button on my browser, and the review was gone. Very frustrating. Maybe I’ll actually re-write the review at some point, but for now I’ll just put in my rating and vent about losing my original review. | | BDR (55), Roseville, Minnesota | | August 24, 2007 Well worth the trip. Nice small place near a UW campus. Nice ambiance with an exceptionally friendly staff. I had good conversations with both the brewmaster and his wife who were both very friendly, welcoming people. The beer here is top notch, though that was no surprise given Skyview’s many shared growlers. The food was superb as well, with the meat apparently supplied by a second generation german butcher in Chicago. Well worth the time. |
