| jumpjet2k (13), Austin, Texas | | November 16, 2009 Very nice place to drink some beer. It’s hard to beat the ambiance of the Draught House - inside, at least. After 41 years, it’s got a great feel to it. There can be a big line out into the parking lot if you’re there during peak hours, but the rest of the time it never takes more than a couple of minutes to get a beer. They’ve got a great representation of beer available in Texas, and if I’m not mistaken, they have more taps than anybody else in town (beating out the Saucer by just a couple). Haven’t had the food much, but what I’ve had has been good. I haven’t bought any growlers, either, but they’re one of the only places in this state who’ll fill a growler of anything they’ve got on tap. They’ll get some nice specials every now and then, and their firkins and casks are always nice. Anyways, check it out if you’ve never been. It’s a key part of the Austin beer experience. | | mar (36), Dallas, Texas | | October 24, 2009 Very low key place with a great selection. | thirdeye11 (6), Texas does not count - explanation | | October 5, 2009 One problem with the DFW (Dallas Forth Worth) beer scene is that we don’t have any place that growlers beers. When I heard about the Draught House and how they not only fill growlers with any beer they offer on draught, but they also brew their own I knew I had to stop in. The fact that they offered La Folie on draught made it an easy decision for my wife as well.
I was told to not go during a peak time because the line would be out the door, but we got there at 10pm on Friday night. I walked in and the setup is pretty cool. Only one place to order beers, and the line comes right out the front door. While I was told I’d be waiting, I wasn’t. Only 2 or 3 patrons in front of me, I ordered 2 La Folie’s within minutes. A couple times throughout the evening the line extended past the front door, but always moved very quickly.
I was impressed with the bartenders’ knowledge of beers, and they knew the prices of everything (growler fills included) off the top of their head.
Maybe the best beer bar destination in all of Texas, and they even had Racer X on tap. This is the first time it’s ever been on tap in Texas, who knows maybe the last.
Either way this is a must stop for any beer geek traveling to this region. | | Cavie (49), Fort Worth, Texas | | July 27, 2009 Popped in on a Friday evening. Typical pub decor, but I was surprised on how small it was! We were told to come early as it fills up quickly but we didn’t make it till 5. The place filled up VERY quickly within minutes of us arriving. There are no waitresses so you have to go to the bar to order. At points the line for this went out the door and into the parking lot. They had a nice selection of house brews as well as a great guest tap selection. I had some Austin area beers that I can’t find in Dallas. Ordered a pizza and it was very good. Not sure what happened with my tab; the prices were either WAY better than I thought or some things were left off. Fun visit, I’d return. | graham515 (8), Houston, Texas does not count - explanation | | June 18, 2009 Absolutely LOVE this place. In-house brews are usually pretty awesome and the guest tap selection is phenomenal. Service can be a bit unfriendly during peak times, but thats understandable. If you are in north Austin its a must stop | Shelmire (3), , does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2009 I love this place. The staff is really friendly if you treat them like humans, rather than tap monkeys. They do a great job of always having something I have never had before. They have homebrew, Josh makes some tasty beers. And the Firkin Friday promo is great for something new. The lines can get long at the bar, but its more due to indecisive customers than anything else. The patio is great, a good layout for drinking beer. I’m a big fan of the beer rail when it gets a little busier. Food comes in good portions with good value, but there not too much to choose from. I try to make it once a week, at least. | jkwalking05 (4), Arlington, Texas does not count - explanation | | March 22, 2009 Nice little german style pub in Austin, TX. We got there at 3:30 on a Saturday thank God, because about 20 minutes later I could hardly breathe it was so crowded. The selection is great with 4 of their own beers and about 40+ other taps. Didn’t try the food, but the Draught House Double Red kept my mind off of the line, which was going out the door. The bartender does a great job, however keeping up with all of the orders. And the brewer was kind enough to even have a quick chat with us about the beers he was working on. It may be slightly less busy during the week, but still there is one bit of advice I’d like to give you...get there AS SOON AS it opens. We were lucky and got a seat at the bar. | | hopeye101 (11), Draughthouse, Texas | | February 13, 2009 My favorite bar in the whole wide world. The beers made on site are (dare I say) world class.
Lots of taps otherwise, but stick to the homebrews you won’t be disappointed.
| | KAggie97 (153), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring , Texas | | October 25, 2008 Had some brews here with lb4lb and fly. I love the pub atmosphere and the quaintness of the place. The scenery inside the bar- particularly the female portion of the decor- is not bad, either. Good tap selection, nice bartenders. A definite must-visit while in Austin. | xpimptastikx (3), Austin, Texas does not count - explanation | | October 7, 2008 [ Updated March 17, 2009 ] Great beer selection, with awesome home brews to boot. Food is good, cheap, and filling. Nice and relaxed environment.
Only bad part is the staff tends to have an attitude unless you meet their standards. |
