Nice location, an old building in the old portion on Ellicott City. Had some wings and sampled the beers they had on tap. Beer was average at best across the board. Nothing really stood out. Liked the ambience of the place though.

The beers are boring but I love the town and its atmosphere. You can usually find some interesting characters and conversation in the basement bar.

very cool building.... converted hardware store with high ceilings, multi levels, wooden surroundings and exposed brewing equipment. great friendly service although it was a bit slow. 8 very mediocre beers on tap. a nice place to get away from the town...

Really great little town where the brewpub is located. Went there this past weekend with some friends. Beers were not good. I didn’t get a chance to look at a menu because we didn’t stay there long. I didn’t like the beers though and I heard the beers used to be really good here. Oh well.

I have been looking forward to coming here for quite a while & I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed. While I enjoyed this place, liked the decor, the multi levels, & the atmosphere, I was less than Impressed with the beer. Had a sampler + 1 extra I managed to talk the Bartender into giving me (she was nice, cute, hungover, & clueless about beer!), but they just weren’t that good. Not sure if it was a matter of dirty lines or just poorly brewed beers. Several just had an old, stale taste to them. Had a board with on tap dates for the kegs & none were too old-if those dates were to be believed. I might go back here for the atmosphere w/a group of friends-like you would go to any standard bar, but it wouldn’t be for the beer.

MD’s only lager house, I like it. And I liked the place as well. A great little town that is full of night life, this is one of the highlights for sure. The burger was little overcooked, but it was late on a busy Friday night, I’m sure they didn’t really care. I like the building, the downstairs, the differet feels of the different levels, the beers were good but not great.

This is Maryland’s only Lager House. That’s all they brew. Bock’s, Dunkel, Pilsner etc... I have not had all of their beer, but the ones I did have were OK. They do have a pretty good crab dip served in a bread boule. Met some cool people in the basement pub. Bartender was friendly. Lots of regulars there at the time.

Set in a beutifully and hilly town, I’d have liked to explore town, if we’d had the time and it hadn’t rained. I was recommended this place by a selfproclaimed beerlover, but I must admit I was disappointed by the recommendation. The beers were from off to below average, so don’t go for the quality of the beers, but to get the 8 ticks you can have in a sampler. The beers were haunted by brewing flaws and poor cleaning. But the food was tasty and resonable priced. The brewpub is set in a high vaulted old building, but the decoration is boring, some weird mixture of granit block walls and cardboard and plaster walls. The service was annoyingly slow, it seemed that the bartenders spend more time talking amongst each other than with the customers. I won’t go out of my way to come back.

Ellicott Mills is in the historic district of Ellicott City, a quaint little town with plenty of antique shops and the like. The brewery is situated at the top of the hill. The downstaris bar is small and dark, but has a very nice atmosphere. There were about eight of their brews on tap and had wine and some bottles to choose from as well. As others have said before me, the bocks are what they do best, their other brews are so-so. Upstairs you can get a good bite to eat and gaze upon their brewing vats. A good place to get a beer and a bite, I’ll be going back.

This was a serendipity. After five years of being on the road, I’ve found a number of good brewpubs, a few great ones, a lot of crappy ones -- this has been the best experience so far. The brews range from average to very good. The food is great - try the venison sausage and braised cabbage. The bar itself is an old building in a cool, mountainesque artsy area. When I got there, the bar was packed, the tables full, so I reluctantly headed downstairs to the smoking bar. Fortuitous fallback. The owner/barkeep, Tim was down there, holding court on a cold Tuesday night with a number of his regulars. What started out to be a dinner jaunt turned into six of the most pleasant hours that I’ve passed in a bar. We argued/discussed religion, politics, relationships, etc., with a wide range of viewpoints, while everyone remained civil and quasi-informed. A very erudite bar. If you’re driving through/near Baltimore, and you get the chance, stop in.
